The hotel was quite nice. Great location. Clean. Conference area was a long way from rooms. It was a maze (space intended).
Loved "The View" on the top floor. Pricey! Go early to get a seat for time to have a drink or appetizer. Not many choices.
Also ate at the restaurant on the main level. Slow bit nice staff. Manager (?) was spending the time watching a game in the tv. If off work, should have taken his name tag off. Wait staff was very polite and friendly. Just things were slow.
Annabelle's across the street had great food and service.
Parking was outrageous. Half the price across the street one block on 4th and Mission.

I live in the bay area and it's not often that I have a chance to stay at local hotels. This is an amazing property in the Marriott portfolio. They have an awesome view from the Sky Lounge on the 39th floor, where you can grab a drink and then sit right next to the landmark, huge, art deco window that spans from floor to ceiling.

As a premium member of the Marriott chain, I have access to their concierge lounge where I had a great breakfast complete with giant fresh strawberries and all of the usual favorites, such as eggs, bacon, and potatoes etc. The staff during this meal was exceptional! One lady (I didn't catch her name) with platinum blonde hair was just amazing, Very helpful, cleared my plates right away, and made my morning shine.

The property itself is large and has great parking, the staff are very friendly and professional.

Highly recommend this as a great place to stay south of Market.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet comfortable corner room.

Internet access 14.95 a day EXTRA. Sauna room 70.00 EXTRA. No breakfast unless you want to pay EXTRA. Coffee shops close early in the walking area. 3 Starbucks within 100 yards including one inside all closed @ 9:30. Could not get a cup of coffee in the night hours. One cup coffee maker that uses glass cups for coffee. Room had teaser snacks and drinks in the room for sale at crazy price. Sign says if touched it will trip the trigger to charge your credit card even if you don't consume the item. Feared the trip wire connected to the snack tray No microwave.
The good: Small refrigerator upon request no cost. Clean rooms.
All this for 189.00 and up a night.....

Excellent location for union square, shopping and financial district. Whilst lobby doesn't have a wow factor, the rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Well equipped gym. Compares favourably to more expensive Palace Hotel, where I have often been disappointed by the rooms, having seen the grandness of the reception area and garden court.

Nothing bad to say on this hotel - great location, great staff, excellent room, many have lovely views. Close to all shopping. Felt really at home there. Right next to BART - $8 to airport! Starbucks all around!

Room Tip: Go high for a good view!

I have never stayed at a bad Marriott. They are the most consistent hotel chain, but I would not stay at this hotel again. Nothing was wrong, but there was nothing to make me want to go back.

As a gold member I got complimentary access to the concierge club, which I appreciate, but this was the poorest concierge club I have ever come across. It was like a school cafeteria without any of the amenities you expect in a concierge lounge.

I know Marriott is trying to cater to a younger demographic and the public areas all had work surfaces for laptops and power points. So if you are attending a conference and need a place to catch up with work this hotel is well equipped.

The bedroom was very adequate but nothing special. The work out room had every single machine in use on a Monday morning.

The BART & MINI station Powell is just round the corner. The hotel occupies almost a complete city block so with entrances on three sides so notice that the official address is not really the front door of the hotel. For the front door use 55 4th St.

Of course all the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful.

Being a recovering Hilton Diamond member, every time I am the registration desk, there is a 50/50 chance that a front desk clerk would not tell the truth! In case of Marriott Marquis in SF, they were amazing. Not only did they upgrade me to an "interesting" room which happened to be a 150 deg view of the city from the 37th floor, they checked with me to see how my stay was going!

I am totally sold on Marriott. The executive lounge was fantastic, I ended up doing many of my meetings there. The quality of the breakfast was much better than a Hilton. Staff was courteous. For business travelers like me who stay in the room only for the night (less than 7 hours), the added benefits at the hotel add up.

The difference of a Marriott and a Hilton in terms of

- service
- quality (food, room)
- other amenities (pool, gym, spa)
- restaurants

were far better. And, yes I have stayed at a few Hilton hotels around the world :)

And, no Marriott did not bribe me either ;)

Room Tip: Stay on the tower and try the highest floor you can get. Even if it is a smaller room, take it. The...
