Being able to walk to all the wonderful shopping and dining in the area makes this hotel a winner. Our room was clean and neat and service was good! Kudo's to the Concierge who were always spot on with their directions and recommendations during our visit! The View Lounge on the 39th floor was a nice way to end the day. Thanks again Marriott!

I'm an elite gold member with Marriott, staying in their hotels about 50 nights a year.
By far the best thing about this Marquis is its location. The BART line skirts Market Street and there just aren't a ton of hotels super close to one of the downtown stations. The Marquis is one of them, and they capitalize on this by asking extremely high prices that they would never get located elsewhere without major improvements to the property. There's nothing terrible about the rooms, but neither are they remotely luxurious as you would expect at this price. (And I was in an upgraded room as an elite member.) Nonetheless, it was great to stay here because I could hop on BART to my meetings in Oakland, BART back, and in the evening enjoy the shopping and great restaurants around the hotel.
The other outstanding feature of this hotel is The View bar. Again, insanely expensive, but if you're a tourist coming to San Francisco just once in your life, head up there in the evening for cocktails. So worth it.

Dear KitchaMitcha,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review of the San Francisco Marriott Marquis. We realize you have many lodging options available to you when traveling and we appreciation your continued loyalty and support as an esteemed member of our Marriott Rewards program.
We understand value is very important to our guests and we are constantly conducting price comparisons to ensure we are competitively priced. It was disappointing to read you were less than impressed with our recently “rejuvenated” guest rooms. However, it was a pleasure to read your recognition of our excellent location and our View Lounge. We do hope to have the honor of welcoming you back in the near future.

Sincerely,

The San Francisco Marriott Marquis

The location is excellent for shopping and getting around the city with a quick walk to the BART and cable cars. The views from the rooftop bar are some of the best in hte city, but the bar is often very crowded and too louod for a conversation. Our room was near the elevators which were noisy and could be heard throughout the night.

Room Tip: Need to ask for a higher room and pay a little more if you want a good view.

Great location. You are close to everything and as another reviewer mentioned do get a MUNI pass. It is worth the $22. You can walk but I found the hills a little difficult to climb if we were walking far. Jumping on a trolley is a life saver!
Rooms were comfortable and clean. I was on a high floor so noise was not that bad. I had a corner room with an excellent view. I usually don't prefer corner rooms because of noise and cold but this one was very comfortable. Housekeeping service was great. I was at a convention and in and out of my room during the day. It was cleaned quickly.
The executive lounge was a disappointment. The breakfast area was packed and ran out of coffee and food each time I was there (5 night stay) I went in for the evening service and left without getting anything.
The hotel was packed for the convention but with the crowd being what it was. 130K in attendance, you could still get a drink in the lobby restaurant. Great service!!
One tip if the hotel is busy you could wait awhile on a cab so plan ahead. We waited for 45 minutes and decided to take the trolley to the Pier.

Room Tip: Loved the corner room. Great view and very comfortable!!

My family stayed here for several fun filled nights in December. It was almost flawless. The cost is the only real drawback to this hotel. When parking a car is $63 a night plus tip you know you got a problem. A taxi with tip was about $50 from SFO.

The location is a few blocks away from a great shopping area and the main trolley stop. Union Square is only a few more blocks away. Chinatown is also really close. Pier 39 is about 2 miles. Golden gate is maybe 5 miles?

The concierge lounge is well worth the extra money if do not have access. Free breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, oatmeal, fresh pastries, fresh fruit, cereal. Snacks in the evening were substantial but not as good as breakfast. Dessert was sad compared to breakfast. FYI - It gets REALLY REALLY REALLY busy...

Everything is easy to get to with a MUNI metro pass (trolley, cable car, bus, light rail) so I highly suggest you get one. $22 for a 3 day pass. Get a map too so you know which lines go where.

If you need a car for a day or two, I would rent one a day at a time from a local place (hertz is in the hotel) or a few blocks away on O'Farrell you will find several other companies.

If you have the funds then I highly recommend the hotel. If not, I would still say you should try to make it work. :)

Happy Travels!

Room Tip: Sunrises are best from even numbered rooms on high floors. Lounge is on #2. Be prepared for a crowed...

If not for the cold lobby, I would rate it 5 stars. The rooms are excellent. And so is the check-in process, location and the lounge bar. Did not eat anything so can't say much about that. However the restaurant looked busy so I am guessing it would be worth the try.

Currently staying at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis and contemplating switching to the JW tomorrow. Checked in today and the first thing I noticed was a dirty toilet in the bathroom. Other issues are that you can hear street noise from the outside of the hotel even though the website states soundproof windows and an executive lounge that looks more like an employee cafeteria than an upscale concierge lounge. I did notice a number of people gave this property high grades; but I am a seasoned traveler who has stayed approximately 2000 nights in hotels and I cannot give this hotel more than 3 stars

Dear njnetsfan,

We are very sorry that the room you stayed in did not meet your and our high standards of cleanliness and we are looking into it. Unfortunately, being located in the city center our lower floor rooms can be exposed to the noise so prevalent in urban centers. Please reach out to our team directly for your next stay so that we may confirm a room on a higher floor.

Thanks so much for your valuable feedback.
