“Great stay in SOMA!”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

Stayed at the Marriott while attending an event in the city and preferred not to drive home. It's conveniently located in the South of Market area which is great since the Union Square area tends to be much more congested and I was running late to get to the event. This place is massive and probably one of the largest hotels in San Francisco. Upon check in we were given a room in the recently renovated low rise tower. I was hoping for a room with a view. The plus side of staying in the low rise tower is the fast elevator ride down to the lobby. The room was renovated and very clean. Checkout and valet were fairly quick as well. The only issue I encountered was a phone call from the hotel the next afternoon asking how long I was extending my stay for, that housekeeping had alerted them that I was extending my stay. It was odd and left me thinking my credit card would be charged for an additional night.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the church next door to the hotel, they have a church bell that goes off ev...

The location and the amenities of the hotel are great. The bar on the 39th floor was spectacular! The beds were very comfortable and the hotel was very clean. Would highly recommend this hotel to others.

This is our second stay at this hotel. Service is always top notch and rooms are always comfortable. As a Gold Elite Member, we did not pay cash for the room, but rather used points and got a nice upgraded room with a view. The location of this hotel is very central to anything you may want to do in the city. We were in town from Boston for a 49ers game at Candlestick. We were a simple cable car ride to the water and the ferries over to Alcatraz. Union Square is only a few blocks away. On this particular trip, the hotel was exceptionally crowded and the bar service was veryly slow, but that is to be expected during the holiday rush. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone wanting great service in a central location in downtown SF.

Green Features: Always appreciate the conscientious effort this hotel chain makes in staying environmentally friendly.

This was my second stay here and enjoyed it. The staff are amazing, so friendly and willing to accommodate any request. They try hard to make you feel welcome. I paid to upgrade to a larger corner room, but was disappointed it was still quite small - especially considering the premium price. I stayed here before and had a much larger room. Also the southern exposure bakes the room with heat, it is easy to keep the drapes closed but housekeeping opens them completely every time they came in so when returning later in the day the room was an oven. I the climate control system works well and helps keep things as desired but I found the bedding material to be quite hot - perhaps because I had requested the foam pillows rather than feather. I would wake up feeling so hot and having to move across the bed to a cooler spot. This is my only gripe - I never could get quite comfortable in bed. But overall the hotel is really nice, clean and the staff are among the best in the industry!

Room Tip: Upper floor corner rooms have great views but heat up from the sun

Green Features: Recycling in every room and signs throughout the property to promote recycling, this is a good commitment compared to others. The standard option to refuse linen change is offered.

Stayed in this hotel Dec 1 - to 5th, 2013. We had a fabulous experience. The locations couldn't be better. Rooms are very nice and very modern. Service was excellent. And the bar on 39th floor has spectacular views. Especially if you can get there when the bar opens at 4pm.

No one tries to upsell you anything. You are welcomed like a VIP, and they are happy to be of service to you at any time.

Free Wi-fi available in the public area, although it is not accessable from the room you are able to access it from any other place in the hotel.

Location wise -couldn't be better. The main train station and trums, cable car and undeground station is only a stone throw away with main shopping area is across the road.

Next time we are in San Francisco - Marriot Marquis will be our first choice.

I want to say "Thank you" to Marriot Marquis team for the great service and experience.

I would highly recomend this hotel to anyone considering it.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor room. The views are mouch nicer.

was there 2 days for a conference.... great staff and accommodations... fantastic views from the "39th" floor bar....what a place to take photos from... Only downside is room service and house keeping need to coordinate ... dishes left in the hall across from my room most of the day!

Room Tip: rooms lookin over the city
