Pier 2620 has a fine location in Fisherman’s Wharf (very close to the action, but not right on they most commercial/busy street), in a smart looking building, inviting lobby and with good proximity to the bus, trolley bus, cable car and ferries around the Bay, including Sausalito and Alcatraz. Safeway, Trader Joes, Walgreens, CVS, Starbucks plus dozens of cafes and restaurants are nearby, as of course are the footpaths along Fisherman’s Wharf, either towards the Embarcadero, or to Fort Mason and the Presidio. You can walk to Market Street, Union Square along a relatively flat street in about 40 minutes or alternatively take the trolley bus or eg bus 47 (cost is $2.50, you can pay the driver in exact change, get a transfer ticket also). Although most restaurants around Fisherman’s Wharf are aimed at tourists, the restaurants and eateries in eg the ferry building further around the Bay were very smart, organic and unusual food even.

The Pier 2620 rooms have been generally sympathetically revamped in an industrial look and style: they are spacious with comfortable beds and bedding, a safe (unfortunately at floor level with limited lighting, large fridge (noisy), aircon/heating (very noisy) and well appointed bathroom. There is a coffee maker (with French vanilla creamer as an option, in addition to the regular creamer) rather than kettle. However, the room is dark (it needs much more lighting), except at night when the courtyard was lit up and the light shines through the shutters (so bring an eye mask if you are a light-sensitive sleeper). The room was somewhat noisy, due to guests in upstairs bedrooms and others going down the corridors talking in groups - outside rooms may experience road noise also.

The service was welcoming and helpful, including at the front desk, concierge desk and room servicing. Complimentary newspapers include the Wall Street Journal and SF Chronicle. The gym is bright and with a good array of equipment; there is also a courtyard with plenty of chairs and tables. Wi-fi was strong, although I had to log back on every time I opened up the device, or returned to the hotel.

Rates for the hotel are expensive, in common with many popular and well located San Francisco hotels in this booming economy and this year the hotel also introduced an “urban resort fee” for new bookings, the main effect of which appears to be requiring guests to take a compulsory breakfast option. There is a tourist/customer backlash generally against these mandatory charges, previously more prevalent in eg Las Vegas and Orlando, and which essentially understate the headline price of the true ensuing hotel room rate, albeit including some services which you might expect to be included at no extra cost (eg use of fitness, wifi, use of concierge desk).

Overall, I would be really delighted to have an opportunity to stay at the Pier 2620 Hotel once again.

A really nice hotel in a great location at Fisherman's Wharf. Ideal for anyone who wants to stay in the area, with all of the attractions within easy walking distance. The hotel was clean and the staff were very attentive. The only comment we would make is that if the breakfast is to be included in the cost, there needs to be more variety available, more choice of juices, a European type option, choice of eggs etc. This was the one thing that we all thought would improve what is already a good hotel.

The rooms are beautiful and well appointed. The in-room amenities were very good, though it would have been nice to know if the bottled water was complimentary or not. The location is great - steps from Fisherman's Wharf! The front desk and bell staff were gracious and helpful. HOWEVER, the noise level in the hotel is frankly unacceptable. The rooms are not soundproofed at all (despite recent renovations). I could hear footsteps in the room above me, and a motorcycle that was at least 2 floors away and on the opposite side of the building (my room was next to the 1st floor courtyard, which is the 2nd floor of the building). I could hear music from several rooms down and every word of every conversation of anyone walking by (Even if they weren't being loud). Then the housekeeping staff started banging on doors and yelling their presence very early in the morning.

I would have liked to know in advance that there is a required $30 "urban fee". The included breakfast left much to be desired especially considering it cost $30.

Room tip: Request a room in a quiet area - perhaps the top floor?

We stayed here for 5 nights. Beautifully presented hotel, clean and staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a club room, which was large and had everything you need. Free water daily and coffee machine with take away cups if wanted.
The bed was comfortable and pillows a plenty. The bathrooms were seriously well equipped and products were beautiful.
The best position situated only 2 blocks away from Fishermans wharf Main Street and close to all forms of transportation and many shops around you. We loved out stay here at Pier 2620 and would definitely recommend to stay here and return next time in San Fran!
