“Funky Hotel with a West Coast Vibe & Amazing Staff”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

I was a bit hesitant when I heard we were staying at a hotel in the Tenderloin as I have nightmares about walking its streets on a previous trip. However my fears were put to rest upon entering the lobby where we were met by an extremely welcoming, friendly, and upbeat staff. We arrived early but were accommodated by given a room that had just been cleaned.. thank you again! It was a little chilly during our visit but the pool and courtyard were hip and funky.. I really wish I was able to take advantage of it! Our room was clean and fairly spacious, WIFI was complementary, and the bed was VERY comfortable; my only qualm was that the bathroom was a bit janky and we could not seem to find a thermostat in the room.. possibly we overlooked it? Anyway, we really enjoyed having drinks at Chambers and the food smelled absolutely divine. Later at night it becomes quite the hot spot with lots of 20 and 30 somethings mingling, dancing, and having fun. Overall AWESOME vibe, and I would definitely come back here. A big thank you to Andrew and Luke for their extra warm hospitality.

Room Tip: We stayed on the bottom level.. no issues at all and was easily accessible.

This was my second stay at The Phoenix. Love it. Great location, cute and super clean rooms. Plus, free parking in SF is the best. And' the parking is right there. No walking to a lot somewhere.
We walked to an Italian restaurant , Fino, that was recommended by the hotel. Excellent.
Add the delicious free coffee and muffins in the morning, and you can't go wrong at the Phoenix.
All this for under $200 in San Francisco mid-week!

Room Tip: I've stayed on the second floor both times. Nice and quiet.

I love staying at the Phoenix when out with the girls. Centrally located with parking. The fun begin when you walk through the registration door. Very accommodating, hip and friendly staff (thanks Andrew). Decor and vibe transports you to Miami. Has and will always be one of my favorites!

Loved our stay at the Phoenix - we arrived at the hotel a little early and the staff was very accommodating in getting us a room before the checkin time. Just grabbed a drink at the bar and then sat by the pool for a few minutes. Rooms are very clean and did not feel dated at all. One thing to point out is that the walls are very thin and you do hear noise from the courtyard and neighboring rooms. The courtyard gets busy at night - especially on the weekends - as it's shared with the restaurant/bar. The hotel has a strict cut off time when the courtyard is closed so things do not go all night. This did not bother us at all but if you are an early to bed person you might want to consider this. The courtyard is a great place to hang out - especially in the mornings when the hotel puts out coffee and muffins. The location is great too - a short walk from the Civic Center BART station so getting around is easy. It is the Tenderloin so the people you meet on the street are interesting - but not dangerous. We loved our stay and plan to be back.

to make us feel like no request is to large.
The free parking is a plus, being in the heart of
the city is perfect.

I've stayed at the Phoenix many times over the years, and it just keeps getting better. The rooms have a sleek, modern vibe now, with super-comfortable beds and wonderful Lather toiletries. The morning coffee (good and strong) and muffins start the morning right. Some may find the Tenderloin/Little Saigon location a bit scruffy for their taste, but I've always found it safe, there are lots of great Asian restaurants, and it's walking distance from Union Square and lots of other sights. Above all, the staff always earns kudos for their friendliness and the warm welcome they provide. In a sea of same-old, same-old hotels, the Phoenix keeps its indie vibe alive and well.

Nestled in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco is the Phoenix hotel. The Tenderloin can be a bit gritty but for me it keeps it interesting. The decor and vibe of the hotel is very welcoming in comparison to the big box, chain hotels. History is also on the side of the Phoenix as a frequent stop for many famous music acts... which still goes on today. Generally it has a very comfortable, friendly and community feel about it. I have always had a positive experience and will continue to stay there when visiting SF.
