Clean but tired

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 5, 2018via mobile
I have stayed here 4 times over the years. It is ideally located with free parking. The rooms are clean but tired. New carpeting is a necessity, bathroom needs new vanity and shower stall. Water pressure is good so is mini fridge and microwave. TV is blurry. Needs to be fixed. Most important update carpets and bathrooms

Ok the rooms are a little dated, but the rooms are clean and tidy- the cleaning staff were amazing and our room was always cleaned well. Two teenage boys create a mess.
Cameron on the front desk is an absolute star and we loved yarning with him.
Only downer is if there are stupid people who let their kids run along the balcony at 630 in the morning you will be woken!,

With the multitude of options, it is tough to find a place fitting for a family that is not too pricey. The Nob Hill Motor Inn was ok, the staff was friendly. Interiors are outdated and the pictures are essentially showing what to expect. So all furniture and the bathrooms are quite dated, while we could not complain about cleanliness. Having experienced similar breakfast options, the set up is not ideal but at least gives you coffee and some pastry ... but what goes for the place are the dining options in the neighbourhood .. excellent options.

Room tip: Try to get an upper floor room, which might be quieter

The only thing this place has going for it is the location. Room was dated, dark and smelly. One of the hand towels was quite visibly dirty. Very noisy. We were on the first floor and there was constant noise from rooms upstairs. Breakfast was pastries and coffee and tea with powdered milk layed out on a tiny table. Parking was available in the motel. Very overpriced for what you get. I know SF is expensive but there is better than this for over 600 dollars USD for two nights.

But I guess that is par for the course given the great location just steps away from abundant restaurants and shopping along Pacific, Polk and broadway surrounding the property; as well as the free parking for hotel guests. Sure beats paying $35 per night parking around the union square area.

We also chose the hotel due to its comfortable, down hill 10 min walk to Fisherman's wharf and ghirardelli square attractions.

As for the hotel /room itself, it's average at best abs is really showing its age. Room is clean enough but quite dated. One of the electric outlets was loose and had trouble keeping my phone chargers plugged in.
Bed sheets were not very clean/ comfortable , as I didn't get a good night sleep from all the scratching during the night. Found toiletries lacking, and the hotel was noisy during the night from all the commotion and car doors slamming coming from the central courtyard parking down below.

In conclusion, I would not stay here again, as there are better and comparable priced properties near by

Fine for what we needed . The fact it had parking was the reason we chose it and fairly near to area needed to do our Alcatraz tour we had pre booked months in advance .
From this motel you can do a short 5 minute walk to catch a bus to the sea front (ish) and from there you can walk to the piers for catching the ferry( approx 15/20 minutes)
On the way back we caught the bus again to just across the road from motel so no struggling to walk blocks and blocks uphill after a long day out .

Definitely recommend booking in advance for Alcatraz.

Room itself was comfortable enough . Don’t book if your expecting 5*.
Staff that tended to us were helpful etc .
Breakfast is water, pastries coffee I think but for us not fresh enough so left it .
UK visitors - Pharmacy across to road sells bottled drinks crisps sweets snacks etc so is ideal to stick up at .
We drove thru the Golden Gate Bridge to other side ( if on rental car u get charged toll after your holiday - what we are told so awaiting bill) once o we the bridge fork of to the right and there is an area for parking free to take photos of the bay and bridge .
