“Affordable - but...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

San Francisco is expensive - especially now in the build-up to the America's Cup. So we put up our crew in the Nob Hill Motor Inn. It was a bit creaky and past it's due date - and noisy when anyone walked by on the verandahs. The service was nice (smiley and attentive), but the place could use a refit. The best thing about it is the fact that it's close to lovely Polk Street - with good cafes and health food outlets, and it's close to the heart of that magical wonderful city.

Its not really Nob HIll. The street has some residential content but also car repair and body shops. Its an ok area but there is some construction noise directly opposite. The elevator is very old with a manual hinged door. The room needed some maintenance and was clearly old but had some past modernization. One room was clean but the other had a very bad odour that they had tried to hide with air freshener/ Flat screen TV was one saving grace and free wifi was on and off. Please steam clean your carpets more often

I cannot complain about most things with this hotel. Ok it's not the Ritz or 5* by any stretch of the imagination but overall the rooms and facilities are perfectly adequate and the location is good for the few nights we stayed in San Francisco. HOWEVER. Do not expect a lay in at this place. For some reason the guests here and the hotel staff allow kids to be as noisy as they like and to wake everyone in the place up. There is the issue with acoustics and the sound does travel well round the building but there should be a sign or just a request that we respect other guests' stay regardless of the time.

I don't have much to say about this motel as I mainly slept through my stay, but it was sufficient. The area was quite nice with an awesome coffee shop right around the corner, and you're pretty much in the middle of it all.

The room was about the size of a shoebox, but as mentioned I didn't pay much attention to it in my sleep deprived state. The plus side is that you simply drive right into the middle of the hotel and head straight to your room. OK for an overnighter.

We originally checked into a 'sister' hotel but after a sleepless night we asked to be moved to another room. We were immediately offered a room at the Nob Hill which was close by. We jumped at the offer. The hotel is in a quiet road with little traffic. I was a little alarmed to see a building site opposite but we heard no noise from it.

The room was huge with really comfortable beds, a table for two, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The bathroom was large, with plenty of space to put toiletries. Loads of wardrobe space and huge draws for putting stuff away. Even two suitcase stands, nice touch. Décor was a little dated but who cares. It was clean and comfortable.

At first I thought the location was going to be a bit out of the way, but it turned out to be great. It's in the lovely Russian Hill area. Great transport links including the famous cable car into the city and the tourist trap of Fisherman's Wharf. One night we rode home as the only passengers on a cable car. Great experience! It's only a couple of blocks away from the famous zig zag Lombard Street. And for fans of Tales Of The City it's at the heart of where the books are set - with 'Barbary Lane' just a few blocks away.

Polk Street, at the end of the block, has a good range of shops, cafes, and restaurants. I'd recommend the breakfast burrito at Catch on Polk (which is bizarrely closed Mondays).

The staff were super helpful with travel tips, free maps etc. Parking is a little tight, but it's free and therefore worth its weight in gold for San Francisco.

Like all US motels (it seems) you can hear your neighbours through the walls and ceilings. It happened at every motel we stayed at on a three-week trip. So I guess some of the negative reviewers here were just unlucky with their neighbours. We slept well! We booked online and this was great value for money, about $90 a night for two. Free wifi too. A minimal free breakfast was provided but you're better off popping out somewhere - and what do you really expect for the money? I'd stay again.

My parents stayed at this hotel over Easter weekend in 2013. Unfortunately, they did not leave as happy customers. First of all, the rate was astronomical for what this hotel offers - it's dirty, old and outdated. However, they were able to overlook that for the location near family. Unfortunately, it didn't end there. On the second night of their stay, they were continuously awakened by people partying on the roof above their room. They called the front desk but the staff were either unwilling or unable to eradicate the noise problems. The noise continued from midnight until about 5 am, off and on. Unfortunately, the problem was not made right by any sort of discount on the night's stay. Worse, repeated efforts to contact the hotel manager since the stay have been avoided and not returned. Absolutely terrible customer service. So, if you'd like to sleep or be treated with respect as a customer, I would recommend staying elsewhere. There are many great hotels in this city where you can stay for $200+ per night.

On January ninth, I reserved the Family Suite for the three of us and three members of my sister's family to share for several nights in April. We live in different states and thought it would be a fun way to spend spring break together.Imagine our shock and disappointment upon arrival to learn that our room had been given away to another family! The desk staff offered to give us the JuniorSuite and bring in a roll away bed. Since there were three tall teens in our group, that wasn't going to work. They ended up giving us a neighboring rooms with two queen beds. The rooms were okay, but not what we had in mind. If we wanted two rooms, there are countless other higher quality places in the city to stay in a similar price range.
