“Good but very, very small rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2014

Friendly staff in historic hotel. Be aware that even the premium rooms are tiny. No closets, no drawers. No heat, no ac, no mini fridge. Unless you choose top of line rooms, you will share a bathroom. Be prepared to hear any and all noise coming from adjacent rooms, elevator, stairs, etc. Bring earplugs.
On the upside, great location, adjacent to Moscone Center and in the flats. The adjacent restaurant, Annabelles, is a great place for late lunch or dinner. Whole Foods is just a few blocks down the street. Union Square adjacent. Great shopping nearby. Bart Station around the corner.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the elevator, stairs or ice machines.

The Mosser has become my go-to hotel when attending conferences at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The rates are usually hundreds of dollars less than the big chain hotels in the area, and you can't beat the location, less than a block away from the convention center and bustling Market Street.

The rooms are small but clean and elegant, with a wide variety of complimentary toiletries available. The staff is friendly and helpful. And the Wi-Fi is fairly reliable.

On the downside, the rooms facing the street can be pretty noisy at night. I'm regularly woken up by garbage trucks, the alarm at the neighboring parking garage and late-night revelers. And the hotel's one elevator is tiny and slow, so you're better off taking the stairs even if you're staying on one of the high floors.

Overall, the Mosser is a tremendous value, and I'm looking forward to my next stay.

We stayed at the Mosser for 6 nights as part of our honeymoon. We were on limited budget and got a great deal on this hotel. We had a queen room with private bathroom which was impeccably tidy, albeit compact but we knew this going in. The bed was almost too short for my 6 foot tall hubby and the bed wasn't the most comfy but did the trick. The room had everything we needed but a little more space to put our suitcases would have been nice. The free toiletry and food samples were a nice touch.

The charming hotel itself was decorated in a lovely way keeping the heritage features, clean, with well mannered and helpful staff on the front desk and on security by the door. We'd heard San Fran could be a little rough at night so this made us feel safer but we had no problems anytime we were out and about after dark.

The location was in CBD and just around the corner from lots of shopping and food options. There is target, movie complex and food court across the road. Giant Westfield Mall around corner on Market Street with a fantastic food court. We walked from the hotel down to AT&T Stadium for a baseball game one night. Bought a 7 day streetcar/cable car/bus pass and there was a street car stop on Market Street to take us around waterfront and down to Fishermans Wharf.

We would stay there again if we ever go back to San Fran as it's an incredible city!

Room Tip: Go for a room with a private bathroom, much more convenient than having to walk to shared facilties...

We had a deluxe queen with their own private bath and very comfortable bed. The room was nicely decorated, with ceiling fan, and very very clean although if your the types to "hangout" and relax in your room all day, this might not be the hotel for you. The hotel it's self was very clean and staff were very helpful and happy! Location to do things in SF or getting out of SF was perfect although the valet car service was a bit spendy and slow, it seemed to be normal for SF. This was the perfect spot for us and touring around the area. I would recommend this it family's, couples, and students that are looking for bang for their buck!

Room Tip: Upper floors seemed quieter but the hotel is in a busy busy tourist area and traffic noises.

I booked The Mosser because it was the least expensive lodging with good reviews close to the Moscone Centre. If you look (or ask) single room rates can be significantly lower than $150. For that price in SF I was expecting a dump, especially considering the two star rating. Instead, you get a tiny but comfortable room in an elegant setting two blocks from the convention centre. Clean, free breakfast, polite staff, free wifi; that's all I need. Be advised, shared bathrooms in the hall, but a sink and amenities are in the rooms. The hotel is giving me a discount for posting a positive review. Nonetheless, my review is honest. I just cancelled a different hotel for tomorrow just to stay here again!

Room Tip: I got a terrific rate ($100) on trivago.com.
