This hotel is very European in flavor, meaning the room space and amenities are quite modest (sink in the tiny bedroom, no closet) but creatively remodeled (Ikea meets Pottery Barn?). There is a certain je ne sais quoi: prepared to be entertained with the fake floral bouquet with fruit roll that they leave on your bed each morning. The staff is mostly Spanish speaking, very nice, but not terribly knowledgeable with questions about the city. Strangely outdated techno music in the lobby. Someone with a hint more sophistication could blow this place up into an excellent low-budget hotel; savvy charm would be the key. Still, for a reasonable well-located room in SF, I would stay here again. Just be sure that you aren't facing the air-shaft, which is about 3 feet from someone else's window: I had a conversation with the person across the way, (as if they were a guest in my room) before closing the blinds.

Room Tip: Please ask for a room not facing the air shaft, so you can enjoy a modicum of privacy.

One of my best hotel choices in my recent US trip. Comfortable clean rooms, good location near Union Square and about a 20 minute walk from the Ferry Building. I had a queen room with private shower and compliementary toiletries. Breakfast muffins included. Free wifi. Helpful staff. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Look for a 'deluxe room', they include a private bathroom.

This is more of a hostel than a hotel. The bathrooms are dirty and smell like outhouses. The carpets are stained. The rooms smell like food from the restaurant downstairs. The staff is distracted and indifferent to customers, ignoring them while they take personal calls in the lobby. Note that the hotel will charge your credit card before you arrive, and will refuse to refund your purchase for any changes in plans.

We completely enjoyed our two day stay at The Mosser. The room while small, was very nicely done. We shared a bath but never had to wait to use. The room was a little warm (there was a ceiling fan as well) when we arrived but we opened the window and left it opened without hesitation our entire stay. The location of the hotel was perfect, easily getting us to many of our planned destinations. A beautiful old building with modern touches that mesh very well, The Mosser offers great value and a very pleasant stay.

Everything promised by The Mosser was delivered.
For having shared bathrooms and restrooms I never had to wait.
There's a nice little camaraderie with other travellers in the elevator, wishing each other a good day etc, and the building itself is lovely.
The SOMA location really suited me and gave a great sense of the heartbeat of SF, unlike the much more touristy fisherman's wharf.
There are plenty of choices but this is excellent value and I'd stay again without question.

Checkin and checkout was quick, staff was efficient and helpful, the room was clean and pleasant, everything you need for a city where staying in the hotel room is not what you want to spend the day doing. While the breakfast is not "all that" for San Francisco's prices, the hotel is good value for the money.

Second time we've stayed at the Mosser. We like the location close to Market street and the reasonable prices based on the accommodations and location. Small but modern furnished rooms(we had one with a bath), friendly staff, muffins and coffee in the lobby to get you going in the morning. Worked for us.
