This hotel has an excellent location for both tourists and business travelers.

For location, it can't be beat. It's right above the BART (connection to SFO airport) and other metro lines. The California cable car also stops right out front, as do some bus lines. And just a 5 minute walk you can go to the Ferry Building for food, and catch the F train to Firsherman's Wharf (and other stops along the way).

While the hotel was built in the early 1970s, it's very updated, the rooms are large, the elevators are fast. The rooms are impeccably clean and have great furnishings.

The hotel staff is friendly and professional.

The breakfast buffet is expensive (but all big-city hotels are).. but very good. For a cheaper breakfast, there are choices (McDonalds, bagels, etc.) within a 5-minute walk. The large Embarcadero center has several restaurants, too.

Like much of San Francisco, there are vagrants around the block. Unlike NYC in the last 20 years, San Francisco has chosen not to help them. This does require the hotel and local vendors to watch carefully. But that is not specific to this hotel.. it's everywhere in San Francisco. Including on the BART, where on my trip back to the airport a vagrant decided to stand up and pee on the train on the seat next to me. OMG.

While the vagrants are basically harmless, you do have to watch out for them (and keep your kids close at hand). I do not understand how NYC can help them, but SF cannot.

Room Tip: don't pay for the bay view, unless you want a patio -- other rooms have a bay view, too.

This is a big, beautiful convention hotel that is still intimate and personal when dealing with guests. Every single person we dealt with, from the bell captain to the maids, were outgoing, friendly, and genuine. The gentleman who was at the entry to the Regency Club was especially friendly and helpful.

The hotel is beautifully maintained. It does not look like a decades old hotel. The lobby is timeless and inspiring. Our room was updated and had fabulous views of the bay. The location across from the Ferry Building is perfect for visitors. We could take a ferry boat or walk across the street to take the BART to Union Square. The Embarcadero Center at lunchtime on a weekday has a Times Square-like buzz of energy. It's the real thing, not the manufactured kind like you'll find at Fisherman's Wharf.

We found San Francisco to be a great place to vacation. The Hyatt Regency Embarcadero is a perfect complement to the city. The people working in the hotel like being there and it shows. That really makes a difference. The folks at Disneyland and Disney World should send their people here to see the standards of service that they used to maintain.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for the Regency Club. At night you can make a great meal out of their "snacks.&q...

Did you ever check into a Hotel and meet one of those extraordinary people? Alan who works the front desk here is one of those people! He is quick witted, personable and smart! He knows where everything thing is and is quick to help. He works with a pleasant disposition and warm smile. Our room is amazing with Bay views! The Bed is so comfortable! Everything is clean and thank you for putting electrical outlets on both night stands!!

The Hotel staff is warm and friendly and so willing to help!! The lobby is Grand with lights than hang down giving the feeling of falling water... so pretty.

Our first impression of the Restaurant wasn't the best... (table not clean, a waitress that gave us the impression that she wished we would just leave, so we did. Alan at the front desk recommended a place just down the street, but it was the Fourth of July and everything around here was closed so we came back to the hotel restaurant. With Alan's help, this time we got a clean table and the manager Celena took care us. My husband ordered the meatloaf and I got one of their create your own salads! Dinner, wine, after dinner drinks were all amazing!
This is Friday and we don't leave until Monday, so can't wait to see what else this wonderful hotel has to offer.

To the Hyatt Regency, I wanted to take the time to write this review because of Alan. He was quick to encourage us to give the Hotel Restaurant another try and offered recommendations. One poor waitress could have soured our impression of the Hyatt, but an incredible employee like Alan, not only gave us an excellent first impression of the hotel but even redeemed the hotel after a experiencing an unfortunate experience with a less than favorable employee. My husband and I both feel that Alan should be promoted!!

Room Tip: A balcony room facing the bay is so beautiful it will take your breath away! Oh and any problems...

While I live just across the Golden Gate Bridge I ended up here for a conference. Nice location directly across the street from the Ferry Building. Lots of great food there! The ballpark is just down the street as well as BART. San Francisco is a great city for tourists. Have fun and welcome!

Room Tip: Odd shaped hotel but all the rooms have a view.

Stayed here for a conference with the family. The location was awesome, near the ports and surrounded by a lot of food choices. Staff was excellent and provided me with everything we needed, crib, late check out, etc. Rooms were well appointed and the bathroom was spotless which is the first thing I look at. The price though was very expensive, but I guess that's SFO for you. I'm not sure if I will stay here on a personal trip, but that's just because of the expense. If I found a good rate then I would certainly jump on it.

I just stayed at the Hyatt Regency for 2 nights. I have stayed here many times over the years and have enjoyed it every time. Many people seem to think that Union Square is the only area to stay. But where else in SF can you have a large balcony overlooking the bay. The hotel was built in the 70's and the architecture is still stunning. The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. The location is great across from the Ferry Building and it is at a major public transportation hub with BART, MUNI subway, streetcars and busses right outside. Highly recommend!
