“Great Location”
Reviewed April 22, 2008

Before booking my holiday I read Trip Advisor to get an idea of what the hotel was like and thought it seemed okay. Just before we went I looked at the reviews again and got a bit worried, however, I didn't need to be - this was great.

We were located in the 2nd building, which is literally just round the corner from the main building, and although there was not anyone on the front desk here, we felt very safe as you need to use your room key to access the lifts.

There is a Denny's in the lobby and this proved to be a great help - the first day after arriving we went on a day trip to Yosemite National Park and had to leave at 6am, so with this being open 24 hours, it was ideal for breakfast before we set off.

We ended up eating here a few times just because it was so convenient and cheaper than other places around as you are situated in the heart of tourist land!

San Francisco itself is great - the Fisherman’s Wharf area is a bit like Blackpool but if you go up to Pier 39 (about 10 min) walk it’s much better - still very touristy but much busier and of course home to the famous sea lions.

The cable car turn arounds are a few blocks away in either direction and take no more than 10 mins to walk to - we rode the cars just once but it was great to go up and down the hills and see the city this way.

Lombard Street is about a 10-15 min walk away - be warned it is up hill all the way, but well worth the walk and the views on the way back down are great.

Because we only had a limited time in the city we went on an organised Tour that included a trip to Alcatraz as well as a few hours on a coach being shown the sights of the city. I would recommend doing this as you get to see the major things and we even got to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. We booked this ourselves via the Internet before we left the UK and had no problems at all. We also used the same company to go to Yosemite on a day trip - although this was a long day, it was well worth it - Yosemite is beautiful.

We had a quick dinner in Chinatown at a place called Chef Jai's - this is next door to the famous House of Nanking but without the queues! The look of the place isn't that inviting, but don't be put off - the food is amazing and cheap!

Overall the hotel was great - in a really good location. There was a free key operated safe in the room, free internet access in the main building, tea & coffee making facilities in the room as well as a telly and a good sized bathroom. The beds were really comfy, which was just what we needed after an 11 hour flight. The rooms had blackout curtains in them, so you weren't disturbed by sunlight.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who only has a few days to explore the city and wants to be somewhere central as you are really close to everything and the hotel is good value for money.

Booked a room on Hotwire for $79 per night. The hotel is located a block from Fisherman's Wharf. If that part of the city is of interest to you then this hotel is for you. Check in was easy. Parking as everywhere in San Francisco was absurdly expensive. We were charged about $40 per day including tax to park the car in their underground lot. I could not find a good alternative and you really need a car to get to all the attractions especially outside of the city. So I had to bite the bullet.

We were put in a building across the street from the main Holiday Inn Building. They called it the Beach Street Buidling as it was on Beach Street. It has a 24 hour Dennys in the lobby and access to the elevators required your key card. The hotel was well maintained and the hallways and public areas were clean. Our room on the 5th floor was roomy and comfortable. Free wifi was a plus. We had two double beds, tv, coffee maker, excellent heating and cooling, great water pressure and hot water, good towels, good housekeeping services, lots of space to store your belongings, a safe for valuable, etc. It is a budget hotel especially if booked on Hotewire or Priceline so you will be with budget seeking people. If you are looking for the upper crust go to the Hyatt.

Only drawbacks were I would have liked a fridge and they were asking 9.95 for 24 hours of the Disney Channel. Pretty slimy if you ask me. The hotel was also a bit noisy but a towel at the bottom of the door helped with that. We arrived from New York so Midnight in San Fran was 3 am according to our bodies. Takes a couple of days to adjust.

We brought our 9 month old son. The hotel provided a free crib. Metal and very sturdy and clean. Also I used the laundry on the 2nd floor. Two washers and two dryers. 2.00 a load quarters only. 27 minute wash...40 minute drive. Room was immaculate.

All in all considering how expensive San Francisco is for just about everything this was a bargain and a great place to stay. If I return I will definitely check this place out again.

Got this on hotwire.com for USD69 a night, arrival 4/4 departure 4/8 (4 nights). We were given a room in the beach tower across the street.

I found the quality and standard of this property to be of a very high standard. From the pillow menu, to the individual temperature control, to the free internet, it was an excellent stay in every way. Room was of a good size, bathroom was well laid out, in room safe was free with key, and housekeeping was very effective at keeping everything exceptionally clean.

I would like to thank the poster who mentioned the car park at 350 Beach Street. We used this on 3 of our 4 days, and it is an easy 5 minute walk from the hotel. At USD20 a day, it beat paying the USD35 at the hotel. We got free street parking on the Sunday. If you search hard enough, there is free parking on the street down North Point a few blocks, but it is very hard to get. There is also a Safeway a few blocks down which had great pre-made "to go" sandwiches and cheap alcohol for those looking to save money like us.

The only thing that annoyed me about this property was the Denny's in the foyer. They wanted USD12.99 for the Heartland Scramble, which is USD4.10 more expensive than other Denny's in California. Talk about price gauging! Save yourself the money, and walk the two blocks to the iHOP - its a reasonable price, and the quality of the food was exceptional.

All in all, an excellent stay in San Francisco, and an excellent stay from Holiday Inn.

  • Liked — Quality brand, quality experience, can't fault the experience
  • Disliked — The parking cost, but this is normal anywhere in San Francisco

Good location, a couple of blocks from Fisherman's Wharf and the trolley buses. We got upgraded to the fifth (business) floor when we asked for a king bed with no fuss.

Clean and tidy. No real problems. They exceeded our expectations.

  • Liked — Free internet access on the business floor!
  • Disliked — Split sites for some rooms (not affecting us)

we had a wonderful stay at the holiday inn. we were on honeymoon and they upgraded us to the 5th floor in the main building which is the business suite. The room was lovely, large and facing alcatraz so we had a lovely view. The hotel concierge were really helpful and the hotel is in a great location near the trolleys and little italy and fishermans wharf.
Dennys which is part of the other building is a 24hour restaurant and we had breakfast there twice. It was lovely food and cheap.

overall we had a great stay.

We spent four nights at this hotel and found the location perfect . Our room was very nice and large in the main building No complaints until it came to breakfast on the first morning when we were charged $45 for two buffet breakfasts, a little excessive we felt, but we did not get caught again. We found Boudin`s bakery just a short walk away where we had lovely breakfasts at a fraction of the cost. We had a great few days and loved the Wharf area and Pier 39.The city bus tour was excellent where we could hop on and off so we saw a lot in just a few days.Overall this hotel was good value for money without the breakfast
