My wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Fisherman’s Wharf for five nights in February and were pleasantly surprised. We booked the room through Hotwire for only $80 a night, and, even with taxes and fees, the total cost per night was only about $100 – a steal for a three-star hotel in such a great location.

We arrived a few hours early, but our room was ready and check-in was quick and smooth. We had a room on the second floor with two double beds facing the pool side of the hotel. The room was spacious and clean, and the beds were nice with a choice of soft or firm pillows. Everything in the room worked, including the TV, the (free) Wi-Fi, and the hairdryer. The room was quiet – we were not aware of any noise from the window side or the hallway during our stay (it might not have been so quiet in the summer, but no one was using the pool in the winter!). Each day, the housekeeping services did a nice job of tidying our room up. There was a little business center near the elevator on the second floor, and we used the internet there to print our boarding passes, all free and easy. In fact, there were only two (slight) negatives about our stay: 1) the ice machine was out of ice on our floor, but it was easy to get to the next floor and get ice there, and 2) on our first night we caught the smell of pot in our room (clearly, coming from another room), but this smell went away in a few minutes and we never smelled it again.

As others have mentioned, the location of this hotel is superb. You are only two blocks walk from Fisherman’s Wharf and all its attractions: the Bay and Alcatraz tours, many other city tours, the sea lions at Pier 39, the Aquarium, and, of course, all that yummy seafood and sourdough bread. You are also within a couple of miles of the Presidio, Coit Tower, and Chinatown. Several bus routes pass close to the hotel, and the bus system in San Francisco is great, only $2 will take you anywhere you want to go. We took the bus out to Lincoln Park, with its gorgeous ocean views and fantastic Legion of Honor fine arts museum. And the cabs in Frisco are surprisingly reasonable. For only $15 one -way, we went downtown on a cab and caught a symphony concert. In fact, I was glad we did not have a car in Fisherman’s Wharf – not only is a car not necessary, but parking throughout Frisco is a hassle and expensive.

I reviewed two local restaurants (Codmother’s and Tarantino’s) separately here on Tripadvisor. We also ate breakfast at three other close-by places during our stay: 1) Denny’s (just OK), 2) Hollywood Café (pretty good), and 3) Joannie’s Happy Days Diner (excellent).

All-in-all, we thought the Holiday Inn Fisherman’s Wharf was an excellent hotel for the money, and we would definitely return.

Room Tip: Don't bring your car here. Everything is accessible by walking, bus, or inexpensive taxi!

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Fisherman’s Wharf for one night while attending a Conference. Even for a quick stay, the hotel was really below par. The Location is superb, with lots of guest parking, but the rooms are starting to get really old and stodgy. Half of the TV channels did not work on the TV and there was nothing that the hotel could do to fix them. Furthermore, Half the rooms in the hotel face an alley, which means that if a view is important for you, this is not the hotel for you.
In the morning, I awoke to a loud clanking noise in the alley, at first I thought that maybe they were picking up trash containers, but it went on for close to an hour…! I asked the receptionist, but nobody knew what was happening.... but I can assure you, I did not get a good rest..

Room Tip: Do not take the rooms on the back of the hotel (facing the alley) the noise in the morning is unbear...

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback here on Tripadvisor. Our hotel is located in the heart of the action here in Fisherman's Wharf. You are correct, outside noise is a challenge. We do our best to ensure that guests have a comfortable nights sleep by providing complimentary sleep kits with face masks and ear plugs. Hopefully, next time you are in San Francisco you will give us the opportunity to impress you.
Thank you,

The hotel itself is average, fairly clean rooms are ok - ours did not have a view. But the location is great, you can walk down to the wharf and there is a ton of restaurants and shops and tourist attractions nearby. We even walked to get on our Alcatraz tour. Also the included breakfast is great since I am not a big breakfast person anyway it is good to grab a bite and some coffee.

We were looking forward to exploring San Fran and believed this hotel was nice and reasonable. What a shock when we were told the pet fee was 75$! The lady at the front desk was less than hospitable so I asked for the manager. There seems to be inconsistency in holiday inn pet policies for fees. We were given a room with a view of water and our expensive parking fee was waived. At least the manager attempted to compensate as we booked through booking.com and there was no mention of the expensive fees. The heat system didn't work properly and the location is noisy but well situated to fishermans wharf.

Room Tip: Go up high.

The first thing I noticed was the following morning as I went to the bathroom was the significant draft coming under the door. I was on the ground floor with the room facing onto the back of the building, a source of noise in the mornings. Some ventilation/heat in the bathroom would help also.
On the plus side, the shower pressure, the comfortable bed, the magnifying mirror and the housekeeping staff.
The staff were most helpful, and I dealt with the concierge, front desk and house keeping folk. Parking was easy enough ($40/night) with ample spaces available under the hotel.

Room Tip: Don't stay on the ground floor if you are a light sleeper.

my wife and i visited the wharf the 12th of february for one night. the lady at the front desk was rude. no biggie. room was fine, except for the bathroom sink would not drain unless the water was run very slowly. 3 AM the fire alarm went off. called the front desk and we were told to go outside. cold !!! things happen. fire trucks came. turned out to be a false alarm. then at 8 AM, while i was in the shower, the power went out. not fun. my wife called the front desk and they were very rude. my wife turned on my pc so i would have a little light in the bathroom to finish the shower. power was out for about a half hour. when i checked out, the same rude lady was at the counter. i told her about the sink, the fire alarm, the power. all she did was write down about the sink and that was it. no thanks, no sorry, no nothing. not good. she didnt care about any of it. a bad experience in a great location.
