“Nice hotel, not as close to the Moscone Convention Centre as I wanted”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

The hotel had all the conveniences of any other Hilton, the staff were friendly, rooms comfy and clean. It was a long walk to the Moscone Centre where I had a conference (although only about $10 cab fare). Very close to China town. Walking distance to lots of great stuff but the immediate vicinity is fairly dead.

If this hotel was in Oklahoma, then I would say WOW. But this is San Francisco, so WOW is simply a higher standard. This hotel does not compare with the higher end hotels in this great city.

On the positive side, there is a modest Chinese vibe (the theme is present but not fully embraced), and service is fine. On the negative side, the hotel just feels old. The rooms need updating (especially the 1970s style bathrooms). My rooms (I stayed twice in a month) were small. There is no real bar. Check in was kinda slow. They still charge for the Internet (stop that, please).

I stayed here the first time because it was a bit cheaper, and the second time because it was close to where I was conducting business. I would not avoid this hotel, but I would not go out of my way to stay here. Not bad, but not memorable. It's vanilla.

Room Tip: Bay view is pretty good

We found the hotel perfect for us as was very central. It's in Chinatown, a short walk from Little Italy and a short walk from Union Square and down town. Staff helpful and friendly and there's a very welcoming atmosphere. A wee upgrade on arrival was also a welcome treat. It's not a five-star luxury hotel but doesn't pretend to be either. The rooms are a little tight on space, but well laid out and comfortable, not that you'll spend much time in your room in such a great city. We booked with Expedia in the UK and got a great deal on the room rate. Was much cheaper than the other Hiltons in SF.

We picked the Hilton based on location, but did not know what to expect. We were offered an upgrade prior to arrival for a modest increase in cost. The room was absolutely spectacular, with a stunning view of the Bay. The room provided a great jumping point for touring SF, and quiet refuge at the end of each day. The hotel made this trip even more memorable.

We were fortunate to be given a room overlooking the Coit tower from afar. The location was quite nice, since it is a stone throw away from Chinatown itself. There is actually a public park right in front of the HOTEL , where some chinese locals enjoy their spare time playing chess and getting their daily exercises. Union square is reachable by foot . My only complaint was the lack of free wifi in the rooms, we had to go down to the lobby to get hold of the free wifi or use the workstations for internet access.

Room Tip: ask for rooms facing the COIT tower...the view is so great especially in the wee hours of the mornin...

The first time I walked up and peered out the bay view rooms, I thought, "Priceless." Many guests will greatly appreciate your advice to secure a bay view room. Our team hopes that your travels will bring you back again to enjoy the view from our hotel. Thank you for kind words and generous scores.

The Hotel is your typical Hilton- nice rooms & comfortable beds. The locations is a big plus as it is in the center of the city at the edge of China Town, and walking distance to many attractions and neighborhoods.

There were a couple of issues during our stay. First, the elevators had constant issues. There are 4 elevators for a building almost 30 stories, and much of the time only 1 or 2 of the 4 were working. This resulted in waits of over 15 minutes several times, and one wait of over 30 minutes for the elevator. We were forced to take the stairs down once after waiting a half hour- not the best situation when you're 20 floors up. The staff was mostly indifferent when guests were piling up in the lobby because of the elevator issues.

The 2nd problem is that the Starbucks downstairs is only staffed sporadically. One morning I waited for 20 minutes in view of the front desk and no one ever showed up.

Aside from the issues mentioned it was nice stay, and I didn't notice any excessive city noise.

The hotel is clean and is within walking distance of many areas, but the best thing about this hotel is it's staff. They are all very helpful, respectful and friendly and they make the hotel a pleasant experience.
The only fall back is that the ways are thin so be careful of what you say if you are on a business conference as you never know who can be in the room next to you.
