You see the title and wonder why only 4 dots. Well it is simple. The hotel and staff are outstanding in one of the world's great cities. The minus 1 star is due to the neighborhood immediately surrounding the hotel. While it appears that they are working to improve the area it is not there yet. While never feeling threatened, you can get a bit uncomfortable with the number of homeless and sketchy folks within the 6 block walk to the cable cars and shopping district. What saves the hotel is the ease of catching the subway, buses or trolley cars thus allowing you to bypass the issues. I would stay here again and from the looks the area will quickly get better over the next few years.

Yes, we agree San Francisco IS one of the world’s greatest cities! But then again, we may just be biased, haha. Our staff will be pleased to hear you found their services to be outstanding. There is a consorted effort to enhance the neighborhood and while the Civic Center/SoMa districts may be great right now, they will be even better in the next few years! Holiday Inn Civic Center thanks you for choosing to stay with us amongst many other options. We hope you will give us another opportunity to serve you should you journey back to our beloved city.

Room was lovely. Lovely entrance to the hotel. Staff helpful - advised us how we might get tickets for Alcatraz. Restaurant staff very nice. The amount of people sleeping rough in the area was uncomfortable. The restaurant didn't take my daughters nut allergy seriously which was disappointing when they were otherwise so nice. The restaurant manager actually said to her "do you see any nuts?" when asked if she could eat the pastries and bread. For an allergy that could potentially kill her that remark was less than helpful!!

I apologize for the restaurant manager's irresponsible response to your daughter's nut allergy. It was unacceptable and I will be addressing with him how to properly respond to food allergy inquiries. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

I am glad to see that is spite of this interaction, you also took the time to compliment other staff members and comment kindly about your room. I do hope you give us another opportunity to serve you in the future.

Can't argue that the hotel has a nicely updated lobby. Rooms are clean and updated as well. However, as others have said, the area surrounding it not so good. They do offer garage parking for a fee. Even though we had checked out, they let us keep the car there for a day. You can catch the streetcar right on the corner to head to other places in the city.

The people who run this place make this hotel. We pricelined and ended up here. The guy when we checked in upgraded our room at no extra cost. He was amazing. The neighbourhood is not great but not terrible. It's not the Bronx but its also not the best. Walk the wrong direction and things get sketchy. However it is a great location to get around the city. Some great restaurants close by. Walk the right direction and things get awesome. The breakfast was WAY overpriced. Parking was over priced. There's a secure lot a block away for $10 per day. Given that this hotel is in Soma they should charge less for parking ESP if you're staying at the hotel!

Guest service is a leading component what makes a great hotel guests love. We are happy to hear you felt our service was amazing as we strive to make every guest feel just as well accommodated and appreciated. Our hotel’s location does make getting around San Francisco easy with our close proximity to local attractions and public transportation. Unfortunately parking rates in San Francisco are an additional expense with such limited space, but we do our best to provide value to our guests by offering secure parking with 24 hour access and unlimited in-and-out privileges. Thank you for reviewing our hotel and choosing to stay with Holiday Inn Civic Center. We hope you will give us another opportunity to provide another memorable hotel experience upon returning to San Francisco.
