“Basic but good location”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

For the money, this place was great! You're on the edge of china town, great bars and restaurants in walking distance. We felt happy to walk about at night. About a 25 min walk down to the piers. The rooms themselves are basic but if you are paying a low price that is to be expected. Ours was clean, but quite dark. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We decided to do the 'hop on/off' bus tour which is has a bus stop 30 seconds away.

Overall, this place is a low price for a top location. If you go with that in mind I'm sure you'll be happy.

Firstly the positives - the location is great. Minutes from the main downtown area, comfortable walk to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 area. The immediate Chinatown area felt safe even at night. The front desk service was generally ok and prompt for some queries before the stay.

Externally the building appears maintained and the lobby looks decent. However the room was tiny and its condition was unacceptable. The (supposedly) double bed was ridiculously small and pushed against a wall making it accessible from one side only. There was a very offensive smell in the room every night. Whether this was from mould in the hotel or drainage from the street couldn't be established. The room had no soundproofing making all street noise clear which made sleeping difficult.

The carpet was filthy and the sheets didn't appear clean at the start of the stay. For this reason we used silk liner sheets throughout the stay. The bathroom was rundown with mould on the shower curtain.

It is a very pleasant hotel, very well located in downtown san francisco. You are close to every main attractions : by walk or by bus.

The only problem is the noise coming from the other room, because the wall isolation is not good.

We had great moments in san francisco
We recommend also the restaurant "sushi rock " in front of the hotel.

Well, you cant beat the price and location for sure. The room is small, but clean. You get what you pay for. Most staff are friendly and helpful, except for the chubby Asian guy wore glasses. He acted like a stuck up manager. His English was not very good. I barely understood what he was saying. He always yelled and bossed his coworker around. He kept selling the tours or arranging transportation for me. He was really annoying and pushy. Other than that, everything seems OK to me.

Finding inexpensive hotels in the center of SFO is a challenge! The Grant Plaza is in a fairly central location (Chinatown, near Union Square) and close to Market Street. Efficiently run, the rooms are small to medium sized, reasonably well equipped, with a small desk area, and working WiFi (with access code). The carpets look a bit suspect, but overall, it seems fairly clean. It serves well to all those who wish to have economy + accommodation without spending too much time in the room.

Mattresses were a bit on the worn side.

A bit strange (at first) are the shutters (with a sign: do not open) in lieu of net curtains or curtains, but I suspect one gets used to them after a while.

Room Tip: Facing away from the street is the quietest.

The people who run this hotel are very friendly and helpful. There is a nice lobby and the hotel is very easy to find. In fact, it is ideal for sightseeing in the city. You are located in Chinatown and about 4 blocks from the subway. My room was quite small, which was fine for one person there on business. The room was a little warm one night and I could not figure out how to adjust the heat and because of the noise in the street, I could not have the window open.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a quiet room!

Perfect for travelers looking for good value for money. My husband and I visited this hotel during our honey moon, we were traveling on a budget so were looking for a nice clean and practical hotel, with a good location and reasonable rates.
This venue was perfect! Right in the middle of the city center, close to many attractions and public transport. Rooms were small but clean - you could tell that the owners have put effort in renovating the rooms, good internet, helpful and friendly staff -
Conclusion: we had a great time!

Room Tip: Request rooms on a high floor since it can sometimes get a bit noisy.
