“Great staff (esp Club level) and location, rooms needs updating”
Reviewed July 9, 2010

We stayed here while my husband was at a conference and we couldn't have been happier with the location and staff. All of the concierges were fantastic as were the staff in the Regency Club lounge. Outside of Asia, I have yet to see a club that surpasses this one. The food was terrific (and based on how long people were hanging out around the dinner hour, we weren't the only ones who made it into dinner!) and the staff truly exceptional. My only complaint was how dated the guestrooms were. Not dirty or worn but still in need of updating. But the staff was SO good that I am still giving it 4 stars. The management can rightly be proud of their staff - reading other reviews I see that lots of people agree with me - the staff makes this hotel!

Great location, staff was fabulous, bar/restaurant on top floor is nice with a great view, room price was reasonably priced as I was able to use a discount code. I would definitely stay here again!

The location was great but hardly worth the price. Lots of great food close by. Room and hotel were not anything more then your standard 4 star business hotel. The only thing I remembered was that hotel parking was outrageous - but as they say, when in Rome.

I spent 4 nights at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco. It is a standard business hotel. The decor/furnishings throughout the hotel are very generic, and could use significant updating. The staff at the hotel, however, was exceptional. This was particularly the case of those who worked in the Grand Club (concierge level). I wouldn't be keen to recommend this hotel to those who want a more stylish venue. That said, it's not a bad backup if the price is right.

After a 14hour flight we checked in this hotel the staff was very friendly ,concierge was very helpful and we got a nice comfortable room though little small in size but clean. It is just one block from the Union square so the location is fantastic. Tram station is 2 minutes walk and there are couple of good restaurants close by. Buffet breakfast had a good spread and a good view of the city from the coffee shop

I really liked this hotel as I was having issues finding a nice hotel at a fair price around Union Square that being said I think the Grand Hyatt is the best value in Union Square. I thought the hotel was very clean and well decorated.

The rooms are decent, wicked soft beds, the TV was horrific, and the bathroom was clean and fairly spacious. My only comment about the view is you get what you pay for... what I mean is that if you book on priceline, expedia, orbitz, etc.... they give you the base ho-hum room, but you have the option to PAY for a better view either on hyatt.com or at check-in and to have a view of the bay its like $30-50 more per night which I think is highway robbery, but if they make money on that than so be it.

The parking is incredibly easy, there is a 24-hr valet garage less than half a block away on Sutter they charged me $32 a night which for the location in SF that is dirt cheap. However charging $10 internet is a hose job. You get a $15 voucher for breakfast at the rooftop restaurant which is nice.

The breakfast is excellent and the view is even better. However, make sure you know the hours of breakfast service because I got hosed on Mother's day because they stopped serving an hour earlier then the guest book says and as I checked out a little later that morning I noticed on the desk the flyers saying something about a mother day brunch thing... regardless I had no clue of the hour changes because I checked in 4 nights ago and complained to the desk person and he took off the $40 (4 day) internet charge for my trouble. I was more upset about not being able to eat there because the food is so good and the view is wonderful.

Another issue I had was loud and rowdy people in the hall at 1AM. A quick call to the front desk eliminated the noise problem within minutes. I heard the elevator chime within 30 seconds of the call hang up. Its nice that security is fast and prompt here.

Overall I would stay there again, if I wanted to be in Union Square. Two small flies in the ointment wont dissuade me from staying here again.

Location wise it's a couple of miles from the main tourist ares but can walk and plenty of public transport options. Very close to the main shopping area though. Room was clean and comfortable. Bar and restaurant on top floor offers good value snacks, drinks and food and staff were very, very good. Concierge was excellent in helping with maps, excursions etc. Not ideal for kids but for couples on a city break or people on a business trip it offers a good standard and a reasoable price.
