I recently stayed 4 nights at the Hotel Drisco in the beautiful Pacific Heights area. I travel to San Francisco about 4-5 times a year and work in SOMA. The complimentary car service and gourmet continental breakfast buffet were great extras. The hotel has a classic and elegant style, but it is very homey and comfortable like an inn. The staff are very friendly and make you feel very much at home. This was also a great plus when traveling alone for business.

They have delicious hot panini sandwiches available, a complimentary DVD collection and a 24 hour tea/coffee area in the sitting rooms.

The area is very upscale residential and the views are gorgeous. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone traveling for business or leisure.

Room tip: When checking in late in the day ask about deals for upgrading your room

We stayed for 2 nights, August 2-4th 2011, as the first stop on our honeymoon.

This is not a downtown San Franscisco hotel, its in Pacific heights, an almost central suburb, which is about 45 minute walk from Fisherman's Wharf, or 5-10 minutes in a taxi. It is a nice 10 minute walk to Union Street which has loads of nice bars, and boutique shops.

The hotel also provides a free limo service in the week, if you ask. They'll also call you a cab which get there within 5 minutes.

It is a beautiful building in a nice quiet area. Our standard room was a good size, very comfortable bed and had everything you could possibly need right down to a comfy robe and slippers. Ice, biscuits and tomorrows weather forecast were put in the room when it was turned down, and all the staff were lovely.

The breakfast is billed as gourmet, and it is! Any pastry you can think of, meats, boiled eggs, yoghurts, fresh juices and fruit.

A fantastic place to stay. They didn't know it was our honeymoon but treated us like it was anyway!

Thanks Hotel Drisco.

I have heard of this hotel before but this was my first stay. We had an event to attend at the De Young and this location was perfect for us. This hotel is hidden in a quiet, upper-class residential neighborhood, which was a welcome change from our usual choice of Union Square or Fisherman's Wharf. The staff was friendly and courteous. There is a wine & cheese reception in the early evening and a continental breakfast in the morning. We attended both and were very impressed. The rooms are comfortable and decent sized. Loved the added touch of the chocolate cookies, robes, & slippers. The only minor drawback is that it was a little bit loud. For instance, the stairs creaked and the walls are thin. We couldn't hear people talking, just footsteps & water running. However, having said that, it is a very old building so what more can one expect? None of this bothered us; we found it to be quaint. All the hotels in the city have these issues. My favorite part of this hotel was definitely the location! We walked over to the Presidio in the morning and took the stairs up and down Lyon Ave. What a great workout and beautiful scenery. Definitely will return to Hotel Drisco!

Room tip: Ask for a corner room.

We stayed here for a family vacation and had a great time. The hotel was clean and the staff was exceptionally accommodating. The rooms were old but clean although the carpeting looked like it had seen better days. Usually I prefer newer hotels but they kept it clean so it met my requirements. The amenities were great, the breakfasts were satisfying and the cheese and wine every night was an added bonus. The 24 hour coffee and hot tea was another plus. The location was fine for us. We walked almost everywhere but we don't mind walking several miles for dinner or access to restaurants. Our only complaint, there is no parking and although they offer on weekdays to move your car every 3 hours, it's not ideal. Our recommendation is to use public transportation or walk.

What a wonderful place. The staff are incredibly friendly, the location is supreme, and the rooms are as comfortable as any 5 star hotel. I read some comments that there may be rooms that are poorly located, but not ours or our friends'.

Great breakfast and wine tasting as well. The perfect vacation hotel (and for me business as well) away from the touristy hubs but close enough to get anywhere in a few minutes.

Room tip: ask for a room on the second floor or above,
