“Great location!”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

My mom and I stayed here back in July, and a had a great stay. It's very close to Union Square, buses, cable car, etc. The walk to the hotel from Powell Station is uphill and can get a bit tiring if you have a lot of luggage, but if you don't, it's completely fine. We loved that the breakfast was complimentary, especially since there was variety on what we could get. The size of the room was perfectly fine for us- it may be a bit small, but we knew coming in and know that hotels in cities like SF can be this way. The reason I took a star is because of our bathroom- I know all rooms have private bathrooms and we did too, but there were 2 towel racks in the bathroom, each labeled with 2 different room numbers. This made me realize that there was another door attached to the bathroom. For quite the while, I was nervous that there would be people in the other room and they would come to use the bathroom. This never happened, but the label that was there made me nervous the first night I was in the shower.
If I were to come back to SF again, I would definitely stay here.

My daughter and I loved the hotel. Very convenient to everything...steps from the cable car. The room hsd a queen bed and lots of room to move around. Loved the clawfoot tub with shower...justone other bit of French charm. Breakfast was fantastic, and the ebtire hitel was clean and very quaint.

Room Tip: Great location...steps from the cable car, close to Union Square. Wonderful breakfast with delightf...

If you want to spend a few nights in a well located hotel, Cornell is probably one of the best value hotel you can find. Of course, it depends on your interests. But if you want to stay in the heart of San Francisco, close to Union Square, cable car, bus stop, cable car museum, etc. this is one of the best offers you can find for this price range. Another highlight is the breakfast which is included. The food is excellent and the choice is quite varied. Only negative point, the lack of safe. Mine was defective. But I still recommend this hotel.

we only stayed one night here and it was lovely, perfect location, right at a cable car stop. comfortable room. the only thing missing was a bar fridge and being an aussie we like fresh milk with our coffee in the morning.

they gave us a local map on arrival which made out short stay easy to make the most of what we wanted to do.

thanks

We stayed at the Cornell for three days in July and had a wonderful stay. The hotel is right near a cable car stop, Union Square is right down the hill, it's only a few short blocks from the entrance to Chinatown, and there are several good restaurants nearby.

Our room was cozy and very clean. We found the hotel to be quiet and the staff was very helpful.
Breakfast is included and is served downstairs in this charming little dining room. The menu changes daily - Pancakes or French toast, oatmeal, or eggs & toast. There's a charming old style elevator in the hotel too. At night the room got slightly warm, but we opened the window & turned on the ceiling fan and it did cool off.

Parking is available across the street and you can also rent a car if needed.

We would definitely stay here again. It made our first trip to San Francisco very memorable!

Good location. Unfortunately for the price, a bit run down. Paper in door peep hole, old plaster repairs, broken room safe etc. The French ambiance is a bit overdone . Didn't have the ability to try the inclusive breakfeast, however by all previous accounts ok. So, could do worse.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms overlooking the street

I stayed here July 2012, booked with credit card points. It's a quaint, French themed hotel. Workers were mostly Japanese that spoke little English but still very accommodating. My room was on the 4th floor, queen sized bed, view faced an alleyway, large window that could be opened. There was a fan we could use in the closet because this hotel does not have air conditioning. I tend to get hot easily so I used the fan often. The bathroom was a good size for the size of the room and it had a claw foot style tub, small sink. This hotels offers complimentary breakfast which was the best part of the stay. You could choose between eggs or French toast(tasty) and they also had an assortment of cereals, juices, and yogurt. They offer discount parking at a lot across the street but make sure to keep all receipts and tags that the hotel gives you or else they will not honor the discount. The neighborhood seemed safe but I must warn you there were several "rainbow" flagged places very close by including a gay adult theater two doors down. Very close to shopping areas, restaurants, bars, and Chinatown.
