“Charming - good value”

We have stayed here a few times - never disappointed. Quaint, unique, quiet and clean. Our rate included two breakfast and dinner at Jeanne d'arc. There was discounted parking. Near cable cars, so we didn't need our car. Owners were very helpful.

The hotel is well located, near to the Chinatown, the Union Square and all famous shops around it.
Beside of the old installations, it is quite functional and clean and everything works well, which gives it charm and refinement.
The breakfast is reasonable, but its menu has only two options.

Booked this hotel as a last minute getaway for a long weekend in SF. Located 2 blocks off Union Square just a couple of steps from Powell. Fast response to email reservation. Check-in was seamless. Cute antique elevator along with a variety of French themes throughout. Owners speak French if required. Brecky was included in our deal, check local listings. WiFi was free & fast. Room was clean, quiet, well lit and suited all our needs. I would definitely count this property in the romance category and likely would stay again.

Room Tip: Shoot for a high floor

Nice French inn with cool curved staircase, thickly carpeted slightly creaky floors, and old gate-style elevators. Everything makes you feel like you're in a B&B, only it;s French and its a hotel. Rates about half of the big chain hotels, and full breakfast in the european cafe is included. Tough to beat. Could use a touch more French charm (see the Villa Florence down the street, they have the Italian thing just right), otherwise I loved it and would stay again.

The hotel is very cute in the sense where you are personally led to your room (something very rare in the hospitality business these days). The elevator is an antique, so people may be wary when they see it, but it is sturdy (as long as you follow the 4 people capacity). The American breakfast is served to you as you get one of 2 choices, but it is definitely enough for you to start the day off not hungry. The room is nice and spacious enough for 2 adults and a child. The shower is as clean as you would find at a high end hotel. Like I said, it's a cute, cozy little hotel that I would definitely visit again whenever I come back to SF.

For more than 20 years, whenever we've been in San Francisco, we've stayed at the Cornell Hotel de France. It is clean and comfortable, and we love the French flavor, the convenient location, the great breakfast, and the reasonable rates. On our recent trip we took advantage of a new feature, an appealing cafe area providing complimentary coffee and tea. On each trip, we also make it a point to enjoy a delicious four-course dinner downstairs at the Restaurant Jeanne d'Arc, with its wonderful French country cuisine and decor. The hotel and restaurant staff are very friendly and helpful. We give both the Cornell and the Jeanne d'Arc our highest recommendation.

Room Tip: We like the Cozy Queen rooms for short stays, but they are quite small. If you'll be spending se...

The location of this hotel is simply incredible. Rooms (we've seen 3 different rooms so far) are all large, clean and well decorated. Breakfast is really a plus. Surprisingly the hotel is very calm, probably because of very good sound isolation, except maybe some pipe noise (heat system) in morning.
We recommend the great hotel for the best quality/price trade off ever seen in SF... and we tried many.
