“Great hotel in Lower Nob Hill”
Reviewed January 16, 2006

Right from check-in, staying at the Hotel Carlton was a San Francisco treat. The reception desk staff was very friendly and courteous and offered great advice. The decor is very eclectic borrowing mainly from a mix of Asian cultures. The room, while facing a side driveway and another building, was quite quiet and was very comfortable. There was a short power outage during our stay caused by an underground fire downtown on Friday the 13th but this did not affect us as much as it did other parts of downtown. Saha was open for breakfast despite the outage and it was quite good. The wine tastings in the late afternoons were a treat and led to some spirited conversations with interesting European and U.S. travellers (Wendy - the Canadian theatre director to watch out for is Robert Lepage). If you are taking the Bart from SFO, get off at Embarcadero and take the #2 bus which goes down Sutter, hotel is near Post.

Nice, clean, quiet hotel in a fairly nice neighborhood. Great, friendly staff who go all out to help you get to where you need to go, find great restaurants and simply make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Nice lobby area with friendly people to connect with. The rooms don't appear to have AC and the heat was a little much - but bearable. Definitely recommend this hotel for business travel.

This was my second stay the the Carlton and I can't wait to go back. You will love this hotel. Beautiful rooms, excellent staff. The free wine hour in the lobby is a great way to meet people of all ages traveling around the world and share your trip memories and adventures. You can get great rates online, but their website is not bad at all either.

It's a perfect hotel for couple. My boyfriend and I love it so much. We love the decoration in the room too. The location was really good, about 10 minutes walk from the Union Square and the cable car station.
The staff was quiet friendly.

We were loved upon by the staff from the moment we arrived at the hotel for my wife's birthday celebration. When asked if the hotel had anything special they liked to do for a guest's birthday, they were beside themselves and outdid themselves for the both of us to make a liftime memory of our celebration. The food and service are excellent, but the hotel staff is world class. The physical plant is in excellent condition, immaculate and well appointed. We will return.

A family feel to this hotel, with the rooms and the public areas decorated not to formula. Nothing too much trouble for the ever-attentive staff. Nice touches such as wine between 5 and 6.

Location about 15 minutes walk from Union Square, very convenient. We'd stay there again if and when we go back to SF.
