Very good location, ideal for Union Square and cable car to Fishermans Wharf a couple of blocks away. Hotel looks a bit dated and wifi didn't work above first floor. Continental breakfast was adequate but breakfast area was in the adjoining pub. We found staff to be very helpful and the rooms were clean although on the small side.

We stayed here for 2 nights and found the staff friendly & polite. The room was very clean. We were on the first floor so managed to get wifi. The location is excellent a short walk gets you on the wee trams or union square. There are also great cafes, restaurants & bars close by. We would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights at the hotel. The room was very small, had almost no closet space to hang clothing and looked a bit run down. On the second day the elevator quit working. My wife has a bad hip and can only walk upstairs one step at a time, and with severe pain. Our room was on the fourth floor so it was very difficult for her. The manager assured us the elevator would be fixed by 6:00 pm that evening. When we returned, the elevator was still not working and we were told it would be fixed the next morning. Of course, it wasn't, so we had to pack up our belongings to move to another room on the second floor - only room available. Now, she only faced a short painful climb. It was another day before the elevator was finally fixed.

We also had trouble with the valet parking service for our car. You must leave your car on the street and go into the hotel to the service desk to let them know you need to have your car parked, and you surrender your keys to them. Since it is not a primary service for them they are slow to respond. Good luck trying to find a place to leave your car for a while on a fully parked, busy street with tow away zones.

When you need your car you have to give them 20 minutes notice before your car is delivered.

The people at the service desk are rude and not very helpful.

I would never go back to this hotel nor would I recomend it to anyone else.

This hotel is a 2* hotel which seemed to have really good reviews, so I booked it anyway.

First things first: the location is excellent. It is a super short walk to Union Square, and is well connected to cable cars and buses. There were restaurants close by as well.
The weekend though was really noisy, with screams of drunken people until around 4AM.
They provide a shuttle to the airport for $15, which is pretty convenient.
The room is kinda old but clean.

However, the bed is really noisy and feels kind of old, although it was clean.
There's a TV in the room which has around 5 channels and a remote that sometimes refuses to work.
The bathroom is really small and has a weird sliding door.
There is no wifi in the room, only in the lobby.
The fridge is FILLED with drinks, to the point that it's annoying. If you open it, it takes forever to close because you're trying to fit all the drinks back into it.
The elevator also broke for 2 days while I was there.

Overall it's not a bad hotel. For that kind of price in SF and in that location, I expected to be staying in a dodgy place when it isn't the case at all. But still, I find the rating it has online to be exaggerated.

The great advantage of this old Hotel is the location, near the Union Square and with a supermarket even nearer. You can easily walk to several places from the hotel or easily take the bus to the Pier 39 or Golden Gate Park.
It has large rooms and the cleaning was very good.
The disadvantage was the cold inside the room, caused by a small gap in the window letting the cold in. We asked in the reception for someone to see it and they said to put some towels, it worked, but not the best remedy.
Breakfast was also weak, poor variety and the room had low lighting.

Room Tip: Lower floor rooms still get good WiFi.

Really enjoyed staying here. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Room was newly refurbished and very comfortable. Great location by union square. Only let down was the basic breakfast but there is a Starbucks just around the corner so not a problem for me and my partner.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone!!

Near Union Square is my favorite location in San Francisco. It’s walking distance to China Town.
This hotel provided a clean, comfortable room with flat screen TV.
Breakfast included cereal, croissants, pastries, fruit, juice and choice of hot drinks.
Free Wifi in the 1st floor business center and lobby.
There is a fitness center.
Parking very close, $42 overnight and valet parking only.
