“Extreemly Disappointed”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2014

Print out from my booked room read,"Along with city views, THIS room features historic masonary walls and elegant decor, Starbucks Reserve Coffee, plush bathrobes ect." Our view was that of a concrete block shaft filled with pigeons and stained with pigeon poop.
Window sils spiked to deter the pigeons. No masonary walls, no coffee, and no plush robes. The carpet in the room smelled so bad that it kept me awake most of the night out of disgust and anger for what was supposed to be a romantic setting but turned out to be a nightmare. On our way out for a day of sightseeing I mentioned our dissatisfaction at the desk and it apparently went no further. Upon checkout the next day, I mentioned it once again and was simply told that we should have said something sooner. It was a very bad experience that we will never forget.

This hotel has a beautiful modern spin on a ~100yr old building. I really liked the decor and what they are trying to do to make it an "experience". It is however a CITY hotel, cramped and surrounded by weirdos. The room is basically a queen bed with a 2ft perimeter around it. Had a few akward encounters: Right outside my room I could hear a couple "interacting" in the hallway, when I finally coudln't wait it out any longer - I emerged out of my room and walked right into a photo-shoot. Nothing inappropriate but still, strange. Upon my return later that evening, I was waiting for the (painfully slow) elevator and found myself just feet away from a lady who was sitting barefoot with her feet up in the lobby and got to yelling at skin crawling volume and scolding her teenage daugher in a foreign language. The ony other witness was the front desk who did nothing. Honestly, I'd be afraid to intervene on that lady myself, but it made a very uncomfortable situation for me as a guest, and unfortuanetly is stuck in my memory of this hotel. Stay with your Marriott people!

The hotel is in a great location and has some quirky rooms. The car park is across the street it's $34 for 24 hours.
When we checked in with a lot of luggage there is no help and a very cumbersome lift to use.
The room upon entering we found the shower handle broken and on the floor, there was blood on the bathroom wall and the safe didn't work, the towels were dirty.
Wow all in the first five minutes
We had had a long trip and visited this property as part of our honeymoon. We wanted to enjoy our room. It took a while to sort.
Yes there is a lot of noise, but it's a city location
Breakfast wasn't out fully until 730am with no one seating anyone and was a free for all.
Upon returning to the hotel to discuss these issues we were greeted with the manager trying to resolve someone been hit by falling items from the upper floors on the street and everyone concentrating on this issue.
We were offered another room but we had a lot if luggage and were leaving the next day early.
We asked if we could have an early breakfast prepared for our departure. The reception said based on who was on duty they doubted it would be ready and go to Starbucks across the street. Isn't this a chefs hotel and food and drink at the heart of the concept ? Not sending us to the competition.
If you want a central location you have it but don't go here for the staff service or cleanliness

If you're looking for a quaint boutique hotel in a good location, this is it.
Other than that, walls are thin and the occasional sigh or cough from your next door neighbour is often heard. Lots of late evening parties. Be prepared for the noise which travels up. Only good if you're a party person at heart.
Lift is old and hence slow. You'll need to stretch your patience here.
During our stay, construction was ongoing right at the doorstep. Be good to request for a room at the back. But these rooms are smaller than the others.

Stayed here for one-night and was upgraded to a jr. suite! The front-desk staff was very friendly. The location is GREAT! Located just 2 blocks from union square. Would definitely recommend this cute little hotel to tourists looking for a reasonably priced hotel with great service and quaint rooms.

Good location near Union square, walk to BART and bus/trolley bus routes. Nice decor in the rooms. Excellent service from front desk staff. Breakfast although only a continental was absolutely perfect for us. Would recommend and certainly think about staying there again if the price was right.

Room Tip: Think some of the rooms are bigger than others - worth asking when you check-in.

This hotel is a little further north from Market Street/ Moscone Centre but it is about 10 minute walk from the Bart station and the shops. Close to China Town. The staff at the reception were friendly. Elevator was a bit slow and there was only one, but while I was waiting I grabbed a glass of lemon/lime water in the reception which was refreshing. Stairs were totally manageable and I used those when I had no luggage. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, shower had reasonable pressure and it was quiet. Wifi was free and signal was strong. Bonus to have complimentary breakfast - hard boiled egg, fruit, cereal, yoghurt, organic tea, coffee, quiche, pastries, bread etc. Will stay here again.
