“Clean, great location, and good vibe”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

Very happy with our stay - clean rooms and friendly staff. Couldn't ask for a better location, right by Union Park and within walking distance to many things. Only downfall would be bad water pressure and towels were very "crispy". Very cool restaurant and bar in it that is not your typical "hotel restaurant".

Looks can be deceiving! At first glance this hotel looks like a cute, chic boutique hotel in downtown San Francisco. Well it is...kind of. Don't forget the rude staff, the elevator that feels like it will collapse with the combined 300 lbs of me and one other person. WOW. The room was beautiful...the windows were floor to ceiling and the ceilings were probably 14' tall. The walls were exposed brick, the room was large and open with chic furnishings, the TV was on a swivel mount which was handy. Let's get to it... the bathroom had an unknown BROWN substance smeared on the wall. SICK. The windows were single pane...there is NO excuse for this! I went to sleep and abruptly awoken but what I thought was the TV blaring a monster truck show and that some how it got turned on by accident. WRONG. It was a dump truck in the alley...but we were on the 8th floor? It seriously, not even exaggerating, sounded like the truck was in our room! So this goes on for at least 20 minutes. So when it's over I'm extremely pissed but it's like 2am, so I'd still rather go to sleep than complain to the front desk. So this happen TWO MORE TIMES that night, for just as long each time. WOW. Now the next morning, I was sunken-eyed, sleep deprived and RAGING. I went to the front desk to complain and politely request a room change on behalf of the ridiculous amount of noise in the alley. He acted surprised by my complaint and apparently felt compelled to defend it and argue with me. He said it was "part of living in the city" haha I'm sorry but I've lived in two cities, both larger than San Francisco and never wanted to blow up a truck on behalf of arrogant noise. This is unacceptable noise! Anyway he FINALLY changed my room and we had no noise in our new room (street-facing) and the room was smaller, different style, kind of split into two rooms with an arch. Low ceilings, and yet more unknown substances. There was a white substance on the couch. Seriously do they not see these things when cleaning the rooms? I ignored it and didn't touch the couch at all. That night was quiet and thankfully our last night there. Will never return and would definitely not recommend. After returning home I read reviews and realized I was one of many to have this garbage truck issue, regardless of the front desk's "shock" of the situation. Don't let them fool you!

Room Tip: If for some reason you DO choose to stay here, DO NOT get a room facing the alley. Unless you are he...

An overall "ok" hotel, but a bit over priced for what it actually offers. I had booked the suite and initially gave us a room, but once I mentioned it to the front desk they did change it. The rooms are increadibly small, even for European standards. The suites are average in size and comfort. Location is fantastic as you can walk virtually anywhere from the hotel. But again...for the price of $230/night...bit over priced. Much better and nicer hotels near by for the same price. Probably will not stay again.

Room Tip: if you are planning to book this hotel, GET THE SUITE!! not the room. As well, don't stay road...

I read all the reviews about the noise and I became worried. Well, as soon as I walked in I erased all the questions I had. The front desk person was real nice, smiled when he heard my concerns about the noise and gave me a really nice room that was "quiet" ... Well folks, you are staying in a downtown location, close to buses, other very close hotels so noise is PART OF the scenery. My room was not noisier than any other hotels in a downtown location. I slept like a baby in the wonderfull bed. A good ceiling fan kept me cool. The breakfast was great (loved the croissants that are soooo good) and what do you want more than good juice, croissant, jam and nutella as well as yogourt! Free Wi-Fi Is great, works well so overall I give it a great review for the price! Beware that the rooms as small but it is part of the charm of this nice boutique hotel!

Room Tip: Just smile and ask for a quiet room :-)

I loved this hotel! The charm of the old building with its ultra modern rooms. It was comfortable, good location and the staff were fantastic! The breakfast which is included in the price was nice too. If ever coming back to San Francisco I would definately go back!!!! The only negative is that the elevator is a little slow and old but thats nothing really.

Stayed here two nights for part of honeymoon trip. Staff was super nice upon arrival and got us checked in quickly and efficiently. Room had everything we needed - clean and modern throughout. It is the perfect URBAN hotel - you will get some street noise, but when you're in such an incredible city you want to get up and spend most of the day walking/biking outside anyway! The hotel definitely has a great "grown-up" vibe to it that might be lost on kids. Speaking of grown-up vibes, the Burritt Room serves up incredible classic cocktails and has the urban, dark and velvety ambiance to match. Breakfast was simple and good - enough to fuel up before heading out the door to explore.

Highly recommended for a swanky urban getaway.

We stayed here for a business trip. Overall it was okay. The rooms were small but ok. Tight for more than one person to stay in. The noise was loud at night as I guess the bar area can become popular on weekends. The housekeeping was okay but didn't empty the trash at all. There was no hairdryer in the room and the bathroom was small. There is a small old style elevator as well but it broke at one point and we had to hike up 8 flights with all of our stuff. This is a small boutique hotel in a great location. There are many other "chain" hotels in the area of which I'd likely stay at instead next time. The hotel had a "European" feel to it as far as size and accommodations. Overall, it's average for a short stay. Definitely not a good hotel for families or multiple travelers.
