A short walk from the station, this hotel is in a reasonable area, we walked round here after dark and felt safe.
Room was as one would hope - bed fine. Clean. We LOVED the wine and nibbles hour they provided for their guests every afternoon. Free of charge - but tips for the staff were appreciated. Lovely idea before going out to find somewhere to eat.
Our first evening when we were tired and didn't want to walk far, we used the takeaway pizza place over the road - Pick Me Up Pizza Kitchen. Excellent quality - good value.
Hotel location was on a couple of bus routes. Get the travel pass - available from the station - so you can travel all over the city.

Hotel prices in San Francisco seem to have doubled recently. In searching for a decent hotel rate
I came across The Beresford Arms. I had stayed here once before, years ago. I was delighted to get reacquainted with this hotel. The room are large, clean and comfortable. The location is great, just 4 blocks to Union Square. The hotel is quiet and the staff is friendly and very helpful. Continental breakfast is included (it is OK). Above all the price is very reasonable considering what is going on at the other hotels in The City. Only negative is that the room tended to get uncomfortably warm in the late afternoon and early evening even though it was in the low 60's outside. No air conditioning and centrally controlled heat. I will put this hotel on the top of my list for my visits to The City.

This hotel seems a little old which is part of it's charm and for the location and cost I thought it was great. The room was clean and spacious and the free wine and cheese each afternoon was a great touch. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and Rodel, the concierge, was wonderful. There are a couple of nearby bus stops which were useful and only a 10 min walk to union square. We would be happy to stay there again!

.
Our fourth or fifth visit in as many years, and it’s getting better all the time. But first: Ideal location within walking distance to Union Square without their prices. Two important bus-stops around the corner. Don’t let the somewhat antic appearance affect you. It is early San Francisco under some National Register of Historic Places. So, that cannot be changed, but the inside has been extensively (!) redone. New furniture, new appliances and beautiful new interiors. Appealing and comfortable. And you can still enjoy the classic, typical San Francisco bay-windows.

Great staff, from welcoming reception to attentive wine-steward during the afternoon wine social (on the house) to outstanding room-maids, helpful and cheerful all the time.

Go splurge and get a corner suite, a real suite with a separate bedroom, (probably at the same price as a single room down at Union Square) a living room with a fold-down bed, full kitchen, a full-sized dining table and a great, bright bathroom. 2 sinks, bathtub with 2 shower heads, lots of special toiletries and a bidet (!) with a telephone (Whoa.) Call your darling?

Overall a most delightful and affordable hotel stay. Run professionally by their very capable Patricia Lo, their General Manager.

We’ll be back.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny
