“Good location. Nice Stay”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

Hotel was in a great location. Short walk to Union Square, longer (but doable) walk to North Beach/Little Italy and Fisherman's Wharf. Room had outdated furniture, and almost no channels on the television. But, the bed was comfortable, everything seemed clean, and we were pleased overall. A lot of international guests. Everyone was very helpful.

Room Tip: I read some reviews saying that it was noisy on the lower floors. I requested a higher room when bo...

Stayed at the Beresford Arms on a second visit and the hotel is still good value for money. Very clean rooms, we were on the 7th floor away from the traffic so nice and quiet at night.
The complimentary wine and cheese served from 4.30pm until 5.30pm was very welcome.
The hotel is very conveniently situated just a few blocks from Union Square.
Reception was very helpful for booking trips, would like to thank very hard-working Pricilla, who made a special effort to assist us.

Really pleased with our choice. Three blocks from Union Square, cable cars, buses. Nice lobby area. Wine and cheese etc. everyday at 4.30 pm for an hour. Very nice touch. Coffee and croissants in the morning until 10.00am. We asked for a room high up at the back after reading some reviews , they managed to do that for us. Yes, could hear some noise from the odd siren etc. at night but think that would be the same everywhere. Nice welcome on arrival, glad we took up the car valet for 30 dollars a night. So worth it , helped with our suitcases to our room and car taken straight away and then brought back to us at check out. Three nights was about right. Went on the cable cars, buses. Went to Fisherman's Wharf, parts were very nice other parts tacky but worth going to see pier 39. Got ferry over to Sausalito , lovely, had lunch , wander around the shops. Alcatraz was closed , as were museums, golden gate park etc. due to shutdown but still loads to do. The decor and style was lovely. We had one of the junior suites, which was great , a small kitchen area.Toaster, coffee maker etc. my only niggle would be it needed a new sink,as it was cracked. Otherwise thought it was really good value in what can be an expensive city.Would certainly stay again.

Hotel was in a good location on a road close to Union Square. Hotel upkeep is obviously a priority as there was maintenance going on while we were there (unobtrusive). Room was large with a kitchen & large en suite. Bed was very comfortable, maid service daily and we were pleased with our stay. There were a couple of things I will mention but didn't detract from our stay. Wifi signal was very poor & kept dropping off but they had free to use computers in the lobby. Dripping taps, one in bathroom & one in kitchen (we didn't ask them to fix so not that bad). Breakfast choice was limited unless you want pastries so we went out for breakfast after the first day. Overall I would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting San Francisco.

I'm glad we only stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel is very old and dated - the halls smell musty and so do the rooms.

The staff were not very helpful and unprofessional at the best of times - see attached picture!

Our room was a good size but very worn and dated. The cleanliness of the room was poor - our top bed cover had red wine stains on it and the bed sheets didn't smell very fresh. The hotel is also very noisy - most nights we heard other guests from the room next door and the floor above.

Breakfast is pointless - stale croissants and pastries were not very appetising so we ate out every morning.

The location is great - only a few blocks away from Union Square.

We would not stay here again nor recommend to friends and family.

Beresford Arms is an older European style hotel and some of the furnishings were a bit worn and dated but it was very clean. The TV reception was patchy, the wifi worse, but having read some reviews here it seems I was lucky to have it in my room at all. I found the location excellent for all amenities and public transport and didn't feel uncomfortable returning to my hotel at night alone. Some of the staff were pretty surly and seemed sick of their job. Overall it's a great place for a couple of nights but if you were staying more than that you may want a higher level of comfort.

So....

Staff were really friendly. Lovely people who couldn't do enough to help.

Rooms are spacious and spotless what more could you ask for!

The corridors of the hotel stink of wet dog though!!!

The location is good because it is 3 blocks from Union Square.

There is a bar around the corner on Jones called JOnes. It is really good with a nice outdoor area and great food. Amazing burger bar called Pearl opposite.

They serve wine and cheese at 4pm and a free breakfast... wow, people were like flies on xxxx.. it was hilarious!!

The hotel is surrounded by homeless and "disturbed" people, i wouldn't feel comfortable for my mum or sister walking round there on their own.

All in all, it did a job. If I went back would I stay there again? No. Would I be desperate to recommend? No.

If I HAD to stay there again would I be annoyed or disappointed? No.

So Average
