“Character and Comfort”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

We spent our last night in SF here and wish we had stayed here longer! They upgraded our room to one with 2 queens and a kitchen nook for no additional cost. We had wonderful views of the city to the west from the 4 windows of our very sizable room. Although the hotel is old it has great architectural and interior design features which are not available in newer hotels in this price range. The bathroom and kitchenette had nice upgrades including an older but well functioning jacuzzi. We dealt with a number of people at the front desk and all were very helpful, accommodating. Our flight left at 10:30 PM and they allowed us to keep our luggage in a locked room at the hotel and welcomed us to the free happy hour after we had already checked out and were waiting to go to the airport.

Room Tip: The view from the 8th floor was beautiful!

It's the second time we stayed at the Beresford Arms for a week while exploring San Francisco.
The hotel is close to union square and next to 2 bus stops.
Rooms are old fashioned, free wifi throughout the hotel (with exception of rooms far away from elevator).
Hotel staff is very helpful and the informal breakfast as well as the happy hour from 4:30 to 6:00pm is a good place to chat with fellow travelers.

Room Tip: stay away from rooms with x11 or x12 - they do not have wifi

While visiting San Francisco last month we stayed at the Beresford Arms conveniently located 4 city blocks west of Union Square which seemed to be the center of town.
Our huge room on the 5th floor, which faced a pigeon infested courtyard, was clean and comfortable and had a small kitchenette.
Facing the courtyard eliminated most the street noise but the aforementioned pigeons made up for that with their constant cooing day and night, so we slept with the windows closed and the fan on to drown out the coo-cooing.
There was no air-conditioning at this old hotel and the TV was a relic from the 80's but the old world opulent interior combined with the friendly hospitality in this century old building made our stay a cosy experience. They also had a daily 4 pm 'meet and greet' wine reception in the lobby and a healthy breakfast option of melons galore!
However, our main concern was the parking arrangement. We were told that the valet (valet parking only) would require a 20 minutes wait. No kidding!
When leaving for the airport at 6 am on the last day of our four days stay, it took 39 minutes to retrieve our rental car as the parking garage is located some 5 blocks away and several cars blocking ours had to be moved first.
A warmly recommended downtown hotel, but do get a good rate first.

Room Tip: If on a tight schedule allow a 40 minutes window for the valet to retrieve your car.

Had a fine one night stay, very clean, very friendly staff, well located to the theaters where we were going. But what really set them apart was that I got a notice of parking ticket when the valet apparently left our car in the bus lane -- I notified the hotel, and got a check for the whole amount within a week with no hassles.

Room Tip: we were on the first floor, close to the lobby -- but it was very quiet, so I assume every room woul...

We found the hotel to be clean and as pictured in the posts .The staff was very friendly. Simple breakfast each morning of fruit, pantries and muffin. The coffee was delish! Wine and cheese in the afternoon, but we were usually gone touring around. We had the suite with a small kitchen, but did not use it much as we did not spend a lot of time in the room. Just a few blocks off Union Sq and some good restaurants very close by.

This hotel is conveniently located near Union Square, making it easy to get around the city. We had a suite, with large bathroom, small kitchen, living/dining room and bedroom with 2 queen beds. There was also a Murphy bed in the living room. When you have travelers with different hours, this is great. The hotel provides a breakfast in the morning from 6:00 till 10:00, with coffee, tea, fresh fruit and pastries. In the afternoon, they have a wine and cheese tasting, with red or white wine, cheeses, crackers, nuts, nibbles and apples and apple juice. It's from 4:30 till 5:30, but they never cut anyone off if they walked in a bit late. The staff is friendly, and the rooms clean.

Stayed two nights with family. Had a large room with 2 queen beds, a very large bathroom which included both a bidet and a whirlpool tub (neither of which we used). There was a kitchen in the room as well. The kitchen and bathroom had doors that could be closed to the hotel room. The room was spotless. We did not hear noise from any other guests while in our room. We kept the windows in our room open all night so once in a while we heard city noises. In general, the hotel was older but very clean. The mattresses in our room were new. The hotel has a daily wine and cheese in the afternoon and a breakfast in the mornings. Wine and cheese included crackers and sometimes nuts in a bowl. Breakfast included melon, sweet muffins, coffee and tea. The location of the hotel was close to Union Square, the cable cars and BART. Didn't use the garage so cannot comment. The artwork in the stairwells was nice. The staff was friendly. We would stay here again.
