We stayed here for 2 nights while exploring San Francisco and had a lovely stay at the Serrano.

We found the hotel to be very conveniently situated (within walking distance) to the theatre district and other attractions that we were wanting to see. The staff was very warm, friendly and readily available to answer any questions that we had.

The hotel was tastefully decorated and our bed extremely comfortable. The great thing about the Serrano is that it doesn't have that "chain hotel" feel about it and is unique in this way. I would recommend it to anyone spending a few nights in San Francisco.

Upon our arrival, we were "greeted" by someone who could not answer any of our questions about the hotel. She said that when she got back from a vacation, the property had been sold and was no longer a Kimpton. The service and amenities just did not feel inviting or meet the standards that we expected for the boutique hotel and for the price we were paying. All of the hotel marketing still refers to the Kimpton name, but that is all. The carpet was wet at the end of the bed, one of the two elevators was broken, and they just did not seem interested in helping. This was our last stay in this hotel because no one seemed to care about our stay.

Can't go wrong at this Kimpton Hotel. Not too big, but just the right size. Stayed weekend before Christmas. Jaspers next door a decent and pleasant place to eat. We arrived early on a Saturday morning to drop off luggage and were told suite would be ready at 3:00 PM, check-in time. No problem. Lots to see and explore in San Francisco. But when we arrive at 3:05 PM, room not ready. Just wait 15 minutes. 3:30 PM. Room still not ready. Oscar, Manager, apologized and provide us with drinks and dinner next door on the house! Also a bottle of proseco waiting in our room! Very nice touch. We really enjoyed our stay in our charming room. Will be back!

This hotel has some old world charm and is pretty convenience. Walking distance to Union Square, but nearing the shady part of the Tenderloin. I would stay here again, but there were things that we didn't like. For one, the bathroom was small with very little shelf space for toiletries. The rooms were also small. We had two teens, and it was okay as long as everyone kept their stuff organized we managed. Free internet...good. Parking with tax $70 per night. Beds were good, movies in room, a little worn in places, and fairly clean, but didn't have that sparkle that says, "I'm clean!" We paid top dollar because it was New Years. Staff responsive. Not unlike many other older, upgraded hotels in the area. You have to enjoy the charm.

Spent the first weekend in December here as we have for the past three years to enjoy the Christmas spirit in San Francisco. We noticed an absence in the Kimpton "warm hospitality" upon checking in at the desk. Not sure what was going on but no smiles, no welcome back, just checking in and giving the keys to the room. The rooms were up to the Kimpton standard so we were happy with that as well as the Kimpton In Touch raid the mini bar treat. In the morning we noticed the coffee bar was set up but no teas or hot chocolate. The front desk informed a guest they no longer do that and indicated the hotel had been sold. We checked with one of the other Kimptons in SF and they confirmed the sale along with the Harbor Court (our other favorite) and indicated it may be removed from Kimpton management but were not positive. During our stay there were two maintenance problems, one with the lobby heating that made the wine hour not enjoyable due to the cold temperature. The other was the morning of departure with two of the three elevators not working. In a boutique hotel these are small to begin with so it was interesting trying to get from the top to the lobby. Not sure what is going on with the Serrano but will continue to look for it in the Kimpton inventory and will give it another try. The Serran's location is perfect for the Union Square area and is an easy 5-10 minute walk from Bart Powell Station. Fortunately there are a lot of Kimptons in SF so we will at least find a new home if necessary.

Room Tip: Kimpton is a pet friendly hotel so is you are not a pet fan ask for a non-pet room.

We stayed at the Serrano as a family and had booked two adjoining rooms, our two teenagers sharing the adjoining twin room to our double.
The rooms are a little on the small side but this is probably to be expected from a city centre hotel in an early 1900's building. Having said that, the bedding is very comfortable and the mini-bar well stocked, with good options for in-room entertainment.
The reception is nicely decorated and the adjoining bar/restaurant convenient for a drink or something to eat. Staff and concierge are friendly and helpful.

My husband and I stayed at Serrano for one night during our Honeymoon. We flew into San Francisco and had one day to explore. We took BART to Powell Station and it was an easy 5 minute walk with our luggage.
When we arrived, we were upgraded to a room with a better view and Gaby (reservations agent) had put a bottle of chilled champagne, cupcakes, bottled water, a hand written card and a map of San Francisco with hearts placed around the best sites to see in a day. It was such a sweet surprise to start our Honeymoon!
Every night, Serrano offers a complimentary wine hour in the lobby. We took full advantage of that and it was definitely a plus!
Our room was comfortable and we will forever recommend Serrano Hotel to San Francisco visitors.
