Good hotel and centrally located near Union Square with facilities in the neighbourhood: car rentals, public transport, shopping etc. Rooms well equipped, good bed, nice shower. Professional people with a personal approach. That makes you feel welcome and home away from home.

Dear Malloten,
It’s so great to hear that you felt so comfortable and at home at Hotel Nikko. Our central location in the city always proves to be very favorable to out of town guests. All of our guests’ comments are important to us and we take pride in providing great service, so reviews such as your own are wonderful for us to read. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Please come back and visit again soon!

I stayed three nights at the Nikko last week for business, and found it perfectly lovely. The lobby is all marble and moving water -- very soothing after the city streets. I was given a warm welcome and a glass of wine at check-in (they do this only between 5 and 7, I believe.) My room, 1626, was small but charming -- very comfortable and extremely clean. Staff were all consistently friendly and helpful throughout my stay.
The Nikko caters to European, American and Asian guests. I enjoyed sampling the Japanese breakfast buffet after filling up on the usual American dishes, and had a restful time watching Japanese cartoons on the big flat screen TV in my room. A nice touch is the sayings of Buddha along with the Bible in the bedside drawer.
We did not eat at the hotel except for breakfast, but did have a great time one night at "Feinstins at the Nikko," a nightclub off the lobby with cabaret guests of New York quality, and excellent service.
The pool, which looked gorgeous, costs an extra $20 per stay. I've mixed feelings about this -- it is a bit unusual to charge extra for the health club facilities, but on the other hand the pool was tranquil whenever I looked in, unlike many hotel pools which tend to be crowded and noisy. So it's a trade-off, I guess.
The location is excellent, a few blocks from Union Square, great for shopping and sightseeing. (Walk east and north from the hotel to the best areas; south and west is the Tenderloin, a rougher area.) There are a number of nice small restaurants within blocks, and Walgreens two blocks away surprised us with an array of healthy snacks and groceries.
Areas that might be improved are really very few: a makeup mirror and a mini-fridge in the room would be nice, as would full pots of coffee on the table at breakfast. Other than that, this place was perfect.
I very seldom find a hotel at which every single employee, from desk staff to restaurant staff to door staff, is friendly, helpful and warm as they are at the Nikko. Management must be doing something very right. Special thanks to Manuel and to the young lady who was at the front desk September 4-7. Congratulations and thanks to the Nikko for a wonderful stay.

Dear Gailfromhome,
Wow! Thank you so much for such a great five circle review. We are so glad to hear all of the positive experiences you had while staying with us at Hotel Nikko. Our lobby does provide a great relaxing feel upon exiting the city streets and it’s refreshing even when we walk through it ourselves! Manuel and our front desk staff are all great, thank you for recognizing them! I have shared your comments with the rest of our staff because we hold our guest’s comments to great value. We can’t wait to welcome you back again soon!

I've left it a few weeks before writing this review so that my love affair with San Francisco would not affect its accuracy. It was a first visit to SF and I can't believe it's taken me over 50 years to discover such a beautiful place. The hotel is perfectly placed for central SF but parking is valet only. At $40 per day (plus of course the obligatory tip) we didn't bother and parked across the street for half that amount. The hotel is pretty classy and they charge accordingly. We took an upgrade to a club class room that included free wifi - that avoided the row I would have had over them not offering free wifi when hotels charging 10% of the price do. They also asked for a surcharge for the use of the pool but I negotiated a 100% discount there based on the same argument. None of this was in the small print. The room was very bright and airy with a great view, the beds were very comfortable and the indoor pool and jacuzzi were fun. It was a very comfortable hotel in which to spend the last three nights of a great two and a half weeks in the USA. If I'm ever blessed to visit SF again, I won't stay there though. Nothing against the Nikko, it's classy, it's more to do with the other things I'd like to spend my money on in this great city.

I've stayed in quite a few hotels in downtown SFO and this is one of the better ones. It's located in walking distance of market st, the trams, westfield mall and union square. Across the road is a parking garage with a HERTZ agency which is handy if you plan on renting a car. A starbucks is next door and a good place for breakfast (cafe Mason) is just across the street. The rooms are clean spacious and come equipped with a safe, HD TV, Iron board and a nice touch was the big makeup table (for the ladies) and a seperate bath and shower in the bathroom and the toilet is a seperate room. Unlike other hotels the rooms here aren't noisy and being on the 16th floor I barely noticed it. The hotel reception is on the first floor which is a little ackward, but it does offer a nice lounge area. There is a bar and restaurent but they are tucked away in a corner which makes them a bit uninviting. The staff is friendly and helpfull, they helped me out on restaurant reservations for a group, taxi's and airport transfer. all in all I had a good stay and I will return and recommend it

Room Tip: rooms on higher floors give you less street noise

The Nikko in San Francisco proved to be the perfect base. IN the middle of the shopping district yet you can walk to Fisherman's wharf or of course take a cable car anywhere.
The service was exceptional and could not be faulted. The room was big enough to relax and had all the expected conveniences. Plenty of restaurants in the area and if you are continuing your journey by car , the car rental centre is literally across the road.
Our room had views of the bay bridge and city skyline so you never felt closed in.
The usual desk , desk chair , lounge chair and large bed along with shower over bath.
Would definitely look at returning to the Nikko.

Room Tip: Depending on time of year you can get an upgrade to a Junior Suite ( depending on what sort of room...
