“Great place, a little pricey”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

I booked a room on Hotwire for pretty cheap (about $200/night, which is cheap for a nice hotel in this area), only to arrive at the hotel and find that the room that had been reserved wasn't big enough for my wife and daughter and me. So they offered me a "discounted" upgrade to a bigger room that also included access to the concierge level (free breakfast and afternoon drinks and snacks) and free access to the pool and gym, which would have been $20 a day for each and which we would have had to pay regardless. Add in the way-overpriced parking ($45/day, I think), and all of sudden, the 2-day stay that was supposed to cost me around $500 had ballooned to about $750.

All that aside, we really did enjoy our stay and the view from the room on the 22nd floor was great. The pool was fun, my wife enjoyed the gym, and the breakfast and afternoon drinks in the concierge room were a nice touch. Not sure I'd be able to afford going back to this place at full price, but it was probably worth even the inflated price we ended up paying.

Room Tip: Try to find other parking nearby and save yourself some cash. I saw other cheaper lots around, but I...

We stayed for just 2 nights at the Hotel Nikko and appreciated the location as it was very close to all the shops at Union Square. The hotel is very clean and the staff are very kind. The one thing about this hotel we did not like was the extra charges for many things.. There is an extra charge to use the fitness room and for tiny upgrades as well as a huge charge for parking your rental car. I understand that this is a 4 star hotel, but somethings should come with the price of admission. This is my second stay at hotel Nikko and may be my last.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room than a petite queen and you will have more room to move around.

Dear MouskaKO,
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. Hotel Nikko is located in a wonderful spot for out of town travelers and we are so glad you were able to appreciate this. In regards to the rates of our amenities, all of our fees are found on the FAQ page of our website. Although we receive many comments on the extra charges, they do remain consistent with most other hotels in San Francisco. Thank you again!
Best Wishes,

We stayed for 6 nights. Clean. Very comfortable beds in a good size room. Welcoming staff. Good location: close to BART/subway coming from airport and just a block away from Union Square. The hotel restaurant, ANZU, was a nice pick for our last evening in town.

Room Tip: The upgrade was a good deal in our case: wifi included, pool access, higher floor, access to lounge...

We loved this hotel. However be advised that the street noise is loud until the wee hours if the morning. So if this bothers you, request a very high floor or an inner room not facing the noisiest street area. Ask, I'm sure they can tell you which rooms are quietest.

We stayed there for 5 nights. The hotel is clean and the location is very good. The bed was really comfortable. No noise at night and the staff was good but not so welcoming. Car parking was way over priced! I would consider staying here again only if we didn't have a car :-).

Dear Hattan S,
We appreciate you taking the time to review your stay here at Hotel Nikko. All of our guest’s comments are important to us. Our parking charges are in line with other valet parking garages in San Francisco. There are other self parking garages within a block or tow. The do not offer in and out privileges so you will pay each time you remove your car. If you plan on using your car these charges can be more than our valet. If you plane on leaving your car, and not moving it, these garages may be less expensive.
We hope that you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful city and look forward to welcoming you back again soon!
Cordially,
Marcia Striffeler

No complaints about king size room, staff, security etc but what realy got up our noses was the extra charges, $20 for daring to swim in there pool and the $14.95 daily charge for internet despite the $1100 charge for the room for 3 nights. It was cheaper to go downstairs and go to Starbucks and use there free WiFi and get a coffee thrown in.

The Nikko hotel is located just off Union Square. Clean beautiful rooms, very friendly staff. Trolley stops near by. Close to shopping, car rental and nice restaurants. The breakfast buffet has numerous selections in American and Japanese cuisine, very good.
