“Great location”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

Well located near to Union Sq and has a fabulous Diner next door. Rooms are a little bit small, but in San Francisco there is just so much to see and do the bedroom is only for sleeping in. We were on the first floor, I would agree that the room suffered from the noise of the street.
But overall it is very comfortable and the staff were very helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a lower floor room

This a very nice old hotel in San Francisco. It's eclectic but clean and updated where it needs to be (at least from what I could see, I had a remodeled room and loved it!). All of the staff was very nice and accommodating even when I locked myself out of my room twice. My only complaint would be the noise in the alley way next to my room, but this is not the hotels fault, there are homeless people all over the city, this is nothing they could really avoid. And after the 1st night we all realized that if you turn on the fan/AC/heater in the room it will cover up any noise from the alley way. There were 6 of us staying in 6 different rooms for 3 nights and all had a good experience here. The picture that you might see of "holey soap" is not quite what it appears either...the hotel provides soap that is formed with out the center portion to prevent waste. If you are looking for a nice hotel with character for a good price in Union Square, I would definitely recommend the King George Hotel.
Tip: Ask for a remodeled room

Room Tip: Ask for a remodeled room and use fan/AC/heater at night to cover up outside noise.

We booked for convention- EZ 15 min walk to Moscone- 2 blocks to Union sq. Adequate rooms- tiny with tiny baths, but clean and comfy. Service exceeds expectation and if you can sacrifice space and plush for tremendous value in city- book it. Some rooms can be very noisy esp. With open windows( no A/C) , so be prepared if you need lot of quiet. Near Tenderloin and Theater District- just don't walk in wrong direction- ask staff ! We were there 6 nights and glad we were there-.spend your money on food and fun instead of high hotel fees . I love exquisite rooms and linens but to get affordable heart of city accommodations that are totally adequate, stay here. The morning coffee was really bad- skip and run to Pinecrest Diner across street instead

Having been to San Francisco before I knew where this hotel was, so I knew it was just on the edge of where the down and outs hang about. First impressions was nice little reception, very helpful staff. One lift is a problem though. Our room was dated could really do with redecorating. Bathroom was small and cold, no heating and louvred windows let in cold air and noise. Comfy bed, nice tv. Tea and coffee at breakfast time was very handy. 7-10 and at 7am the lift wasn't busy. Later on its quicker to walk. This hotel is ideally located. Main tourist centre is 5 minutes away and not much of a hill back to hotel. All staff were pleasant and helpful. It's good value for money and I would stay there again.

First time at King George Hotel and loved it! The location was perfect--situated in between great restuarants, China town, art galleries and with abundant parking. The hotel is cozy but roomy enough, well decorated, and the staff is super friendly. I will be back!! PS: Comfy bed as well!

Found our hotel after experiencing the joys of San Francisco's one way systems during the rush hour! Car parking available at multi-storey car park opposite hotel for around $30 per night. Hotel foyer adequate and small slow lift up to 7th floor. Room pokey with aged furniture and tiny bathroom more suitable as a single, not as double as booked and overlooked roof of diner next door. This diner was used for room service by the hotel. Room felt tired and dirty, although the bed linen and towels were clean. No air conditioning, just a top fan and window barely kept out the sound of the frequent sirens in the street. Decided to have nightcap in bar downstairs one night but changed our minds as bar dark and dingy and smelt of stale vomit.

Green Features: Making some initial effort but did not feel that it was a main stream issue for the hotel. Not sure that quirky soap with a hole in the middle achieved anything.

Great location very near Powell Station, Union Square, street and cable car locations. Very clean lobby and rooms. Comfortable rooms. Complementary WiFi in rooms along with flat screen TV. Free morning coffee and tea. Cozy, quiet, lounge area off the lobby. Very reasonable rates and extraordinary front desk staff. One can sense that they genuinely want you to feel at home while at theirs. Best comment I can make...this was our second trip to SF from FL, our second stay at the King George...and we will definitely return to both.
