“Great location!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

We got this hotel for a great price via third party site, but I would pay a little more for it than we did. The location is great! We were visiting as tourists and wanted to be able to walk to the various sites since we were not bringing our car this time. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go from the hotel. When we weren't in the mood for a long walk, the hotel is just one small block from the F street car and from various other bus stops. Being a few blocks from the main street for walking along the wharf, we were able to step out of the heavy traffic.

The room we had was very nice. The bed and pillows were comfortable (normally we hate hotel pillows). We liked the little table with two chairs, which allowed us to work both our lap tops at the same time. The TV is large and new. Our clock radio didn't work, but this wasn't an issue for us. The hotel had free wi-fi that actually worked well! We were able to connect every time we tried and stream videos without an issue.

The cons: They really need to upgrade their signage. This hotel is HARD to find. The sign is so small, almost as if they don't want people to know it's a Best Western. The words "Tuscan Inn" are what is on the overhang. We actually walked past it (with all our luggage) because we didn't see the sign. The restaurant has better visibility than the hotel.
- Bathroom layout - While the room size was pretty nice, the bathroom really needs a pocket door. There is a little closet area with a sink and where you hang your cloths right behind you. The very wide door opens outward, which means two people have a very hard time getting ready at the same time. If you are alone, this isn't an issue, but it was very annoying for the two of us. Also, there is only one light switch for the bathroom, which means if you want to have light in the area where the shower/toilet are, you have to turn the light on for the area where the sink is --- this is right next to the bed, with no door. SO, sleeping while someone else is in the shower or using the toilet is out.
- Noisy cleaning staff! - We had no issues with the street noise and really didn't hear the other guests that often, BUT we heard the noisy cleaning crew all day long! We must have been near their area they store their stuff. Their carts were outside our rooms most of the day. We started hearing them by 8am. We came back for a nap in the afternoon, various times each day, and heard them having conversations (often not in English) the whole time. Would it be too hard to walk to your friend and quietly have a conversation??? I even opened the door and asked them to be quiet one day b/c we were resting and the lady just looked at me and went on talking to her co-worker. Back and forth for 3 hours!

Overall, the hotel was very nice and we'd stay here again. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The only staff we encountered who were not, were the cleaning staff.

Hi EsKezzy - Thanks for staying with us and for all of the great comments and feedback for improvement. Happy that you found a fantastic deal on line, it's great when that happens! Sorry about the loud housekeepers, that's always been a pet peeve of mine and this will be a topic of conversation that I'll have with the housekeeping manager. We're also working on better signage. Thanks again for the great remarks and the 5 Star review, we look forward to your next visit and having the pleasure of serving you again.

We stayed here for three nights earlier this month & couldn't have been happier with the location & lovely accommodations. Our King Standard room was beautifully decorated, quiet and immaculate. The room & bathroom are quite small, but there are several nice touches, like convenient shelves in the bathroom that make the space very efficient. The shower was great & they even had a "make-up" mirror attached to the bathroom wall. Bed was very comfy and all the linens were bright, clean & smelled so fresh. All staff members we encountered (valet parking, front desk, concierge, housekeeping) were exceptionally friendly & helpful. The lobby is small, but very lovely and it was nice to mingle with other guests at the wine & cheese hour each day. The location is just two blocks from Fisherman's Wharf & other SF attractions. We got on a "hop on, hop off" tour bus just a block or so from the hotel and had a very fun tour of the city--even went over the Golden Gate bridge! Even though the parking is $45/day, this is typical for this city. This hotel's parking is in a covered parking garage and the parking attendants are very prompt, friendly & helpful. We would highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the courtyard--nice scenery & very quiet.

The Tuscan Inn was the first hotel we stayed in on our American road trip and was my favourite. Check in was quick and the staff were very helpful and informative.

Our room was well appointed and I think it must have been recently decorated.

Free WiFi was available and I liked the little extras in the room like the iPod dock.

Each evening there is a free wine reception in the lobby which is a nice touch and you can go up as many times as you like. Each morning there was also free hot drinks provided in the lobby to.

The hotels location is fantastic; right in the heart of Fisherman's Wharf and just around the corner from Little Italy. If you get chance go to the Hollywood Cafe just across the road for breakfast.

We drove into San Francisco. The traffic was a challenge. We drove past this hotel and had to go around the block because we could not see the sign to the parking area until we were past it even with the GPS telling us we were there! The valet staff was great. The hotel was very busy. The evening wine bar is a nice touch instead of the usual 'breakfast included' but the scanty appetizers were really bad. They also served apple cider for the kids and adults who wanted to attend but did not want alcohol. There is a Safeway and a Trader Joe's within a block and we picked up breakfast items there and kept them in the room refrigerator for some of the mornings. One morning we did have breakfast at Pescatore downstairs and it was very nicely done with very good waiters. Unfortunately we heard buses and trucks whizzing down the street all night. The AC was very loud. Other guests commented that they could not hear conversations well in their room when the AC was on. Overall we had fun on this trip and this hotel was in a great location for walking to attractions, tours, and restaurants. If we go here again I will definitely try to book a room on the courtyard.

Room Tip: Request a courtyard room to avoid street noise

This was a good hotel for us- thanks to all the previous reviews that helped me pick it. We stayed five nights, in a newly remodeled room with two queen beds - decor was very cool, black and white motif. Bed was very comfortable. Room was small but comfortable; we faced the street, but it wasn't too noisy. A/C worked well and kept us as cool as we wanted. Great location, close to Fisherman's Wharf. They have coffee/tea in the lobby each morning, and a wine reception from 5 to 6 each evening. But there is no other place to get a coffee, tea or soda during the day. The lobby was very comfortable and decorated nicely - had a great fireplace. But it was SO crowded that each night during the wine happy hour, I just took my wine glass back up to my room. The restaurant that is attached had very good food and service; we ate there several times. Staff was extremely friendly and genuinely helpful, not something we see all that often (especially the genuine part).

Excellent hotel and location. Very close to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 where you board the ferry for Alcatraz. We got a free breakfast for 2 adults, bedrooms and bathroom were lovely. Free tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the lobby until 10am. Great places at Fisherman's Wharf for breakfast. Would stay there again.

I spent A LOT of time looking at places to stay while visiting. Hands down the best and cost efficient place to stay if you want to be near fisherman's wharf. I will warn you, the room is a bit small but don't worry about it because you will be sight seeing. There is a stocked mini bar and fridge for your convenience and the staff is very accommodating. Also, they have a great business center. I needed something printed off and it was no problem to run down there and print it off. The only thing you need to know is the 15% incidental charge that throw at you! I did not know about it so it hurt the pocket book.

Hi Steven W - Thank you for staying with us and for the 5 Star review. I'm glad to hear you had a great time at the Tuscan and didn't let the "cozy" size of the room distract you from enjoying your visit. As far as the 15% incidental charge: I apologize for our failure to be better communicators. At check in, we authorize credit cards approx 20% above the anticipated room and tax. This allows us to open up all of your charging services such as phones, movies, room service, restaurant signing privileges etc. It's an authorization only, not a charge to your CC. If nothing is purchased, nothing is charged. Any additional authorization is released by the hotel within 24 hours after check out. It may take your particular financial institution a few business days to update their records, but, we definitely do not charge our guests for anything they haven’t purchased. Hopefully this clears up that issue and we can look forward to your next visit in the very near future!
