“Lovely stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

The Best Western Plus Tuscan Inn is a great value, if you find the right deal, for its location near Fisherman's Wharf. I booked this hotel using my AAA card and was able to get a great deal.

The room is small but I expected that based on other reviews. However I did have a bathtub not a shower stall in the bathroom. The best time in the room, other than sleeping, was playing find the safe. Interesting location (under a table in the far corner next to the bed.)

The only issue with the room was the street level noise. However, I knew this would be the case and was able to deal with it.

Overall, I would reccomend this hotel to my friends and family. It's location is great and good deals can be found.

I usually rent a car whenever I travel however on this trip I figures the cost of a rental car and the price ($45 a night) of parking I decided to stick to walking and public transit. This hotel is within a couple of blocks from fishermans wharf and pier 39. Also there is the street cars and the cable cars a couple of blocks away. As for the hotel great complimentary wine hour social at 5pm. Rooms are clean and standard. But worth the price.

The best western is 0.1-0.2 miles from pier 39. The location is excellent for the F-line car, buses, bike rentals etc that would take you to the popular tourist destinations. It is walking distance (0.7) miles from coit towers, ghiradelli square (0.5 miles) ,lombard street, alcatraz cruise - pier 33.
The price range is about the same as the hilton/sheraton/marriot which are located around that area.

They do not offer a free breakfast which is a bit of a downside, but i do not remember if the other hotels i mentioned above provide it. (i checked when i first booked the room, i do not remember any longer).

valet parking is 45$ per day. You do not need a car in SF unless you plan to do muir woods/sausalito by car or drive into sunnyvale etc. For this you could always rent a car for the day at hertz/avis which are right down the street (unfortunately the local editions of these car rental companies do not offer the hourly rental) . If you do rent a car, directly across best western is a public parking lot which costs 20$ per day. I think that is a better option.

Room service and lack of the buffet are what knocked off a star in my opinion. Room service can be rather slow. on day 2 they were short staffed but on day 1 and 3 too the breakfast we ordered took some time (based on past experience at other places) to come up. Having said that they made the effort to keep the food warm and the breakfast was tasty.

the restaurant attached to the inn is pretty good. Italian cuisine, they have good options and the food is well done. This is a plus

There is a safeway across the street for any groceries etc you want to buy.

happy hour from 5-6 pm with wine and some pizza. and coffee /tea in am.

internet service was complementary and adequate. We did not stay in the room long enough to watch TV , so i cannot comment on that service.

The size of the bed/bathroom was appropriate. Amenities include the basic mini bar/fridge/TV/hairdryer etc. The cleaning service was good. On days you did not need the room cleaned they had a "conserve package". 5$ if you did not get the room cleaned which can be used at the restaurant.

You do get some street noise after 7 am and till 5 pm which is another minor issue. There was some road construction going on which added to the noise. But this construction extended past most of the aforementioned hotels.

All in all i would recommend this place for its location/cleanliness and the restaurant.

I stayed at this hotel for a week for business. I really liked it. My room was small, but it was decorated nicely and was very comfortable. The windows of the rooms on the interior side of the building look out onto a courtyard, so plenty of light still filters into the room from the shutters. The proximity of the hotel to the 24 hour fitness, Trader Joe's, and wharf makes this a great place to stay. I noticed other high priced hotels in the area, but was quite satisfied with this hotel and didn't feel as if I compromised on quality at all. Service was great as well. The wine hour and complimentary coffee were a nice touch. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Having stayed at the Hilton Union Square (a large, impersonal hotel in the centre of San Francisco) I made a booking on Travelocity at the last minute. I was very impressed with the room and the welcome from the staff at the Tuscan Inn.

I had my doubts about staying in the Fisherman's Wharf area as I normally stay in the centre or Market area of San Francisco. The hotel is nicely furnished, with clean bathrooms and a welcoming lobby. Kimpton Hotels run a wine hour each evening (5pm-6pm) which I attended only one of the nights. It was a good experience, but I'd rather be out experiencing the city than sitting in the lobby drinking chardonnay!

I was able to check into the hotel early (12:45pm) and received a very quiet room on the 3rd floor. Whilst there was no view, it did mean that the room was perfect for sleeping in and made for a relaxing stay.

The hotel is close to a number of nice amenities, including some good shopping options and close to North Beach (if you can walk up the hill!).

I can recommend this hotel if you want a peaceful and relaxing time in San Francisco. You can do a lovely walk to the Golden Gate bridge hotel from the hotel by following the coastline. If you return via the Marina area, you can enjoy the shopping and restaurants in the local area.

The king bed was very comfortable, and the staff was accommodating and friendly. The decor in the room was fine but it lacked dresser space. There was a closet and some shelving but not enough dresser drawers. It would be an easy fix for the hotel to add a chest of drawers. The hotel restaurant was excellent for breakfast.
