“Good location, too many extra fees”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

Booked this hotel online for our first trip to San Francisco. We were excited to get a good location so that we could solely walk for our 3 days in the city. It location was good - less than 10 minutes to the waterfront. The room was standard. Everything was clean and in good repair. Hot water worked, bed was comfortable. Standard hotel room. We didn't have any kind of view worth mentioning. The part that we were frustrated about was the cost of parking. We were unaware (though it was apparently in the fine print - so bad on me for not reading that) that the cost for parking was $42....PER DAY. That suddenly made this hotel WAY more expensive than it was worth. It was already pretty expensive, but with this additional fee, we would have preferred staying further from the water front and taking the trolley or train to the wharf. So if you choose to stay, factor that into your cost.

Thanks for staying with us and for the feedback. Sorry to hear that the parking spoiled what otherwise seemed like a very comfortable visit. Parking in the wharf area is not cheap and we always suggest not bringing a car to the city unless it's absolutely necessary. Our web page indicates that Valet parking is available with in/out privileges. Valet Parking is $44 + 14% tax per day, or $50 for an oversized vehicle. Pricey parking in SF is not a secret and we're very competitive with our parking prices when you compare us to other hotels in the area. Thanks again for your comments and we wish you safe travels

Trying to find a decent hotel in the mid-range price bracket is not easy, but I think this hotel fits the bill. OMG - San Francisco is so expensive. This was our most expensive hotel of the trip, but a long way from the most luxurious. Having said that, it is cheaper than similar hotels in area eg. Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn. The car parking is even more expensive $40 a night and that was AAA rate. There is a public car park across the road that is cheaper. The location is fab, minutes from Fisherman's wharf, trolley cars and Alcatraz cruises. On the whole, not a luxury hotel for the price, but a good choice.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room and they will accommodate

Best Western plus Tuscan Inn is located 2 blocks from Fisherman's Wharf and near many attractions. Our room was located on the 4th floor facing a courtyard which was very quiet. The king size bed was extremely comfortable which made for a great night sleep after touring all day. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Request upper floor in rear away from noisy street.

We stayed a weekend in October at the Tuscan and really enjoyed it!

Pros
1. Location! Less than 2 blocks walk to Fisherman's Wharf. Close to the F line and 8x MUNI line that takes you into Union Square. Trader Joes is nearby for your grocery needs

2. Service - valet was very helpful in flagging down a cab for us during a busy weekend. The front desk was extremely friendly for all of our needs

3. Room - small but very comfy. We knocked right out in the comfy bed. We were lucky to get a corner room away from the street which really added to the quaint, relaxed environment. The room is nicely furnished and decorated with up-to-date fixings. Shower was a little on the older side but that is purely aesthetics, functionality is fine.

4. Mini-fridge - it is not a sensor operated fridge, so you can store things you buy at the local grocer while moving things around

5. General area/fireplace - if you are waiting around for your ride, enjoy their lounge, which is equipped with a fireplace and books. Nice touch to a boutique-like atmosphere.

Could Improve
1. Only slight downside I could think of is the first whiff of the room when we entered. It has some residual of the old days when rooms were smoking. It didn't bother us except for when we first entered, but turning on the AC took care of that.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tuscan Inn and will gladly stay again.

Nicely appointed rooms, walking distance to all attractions. Free wine tasting 5-6 pm. When we missed the tasting front desk sent up a bottle of wine to our room - nice touch.

Parking fee somewhat formidable at $44 a day but you can park on the street and plug the metre until 7pm- free until 7 a.m. We drove to the waterfront, parked and then returned to a parking meter by the hotel at 7pm.

Room Tip: Initial non smoking room had a filter cleaner plugged in so we changed rooms. Front desk very quick...

We arrived at this hotel after a long day of travelling from the UK. The staff were amazing and we quickly felt at home. Yes the rooms are a little dated, but they were clean and comfortable.
The hotel was ideally situated too, and we found it so convenient to explore from there rather than from a hotel in Union Square as we had originally thought.
The "wine tasting" was a superb idea and gave us a chance to make new friends and discover activities that we would have missed out on.
Would definitely return should we ever go back to San Francisco.

The Best Western Tuscan Inn is in a very good location for a holiday trip to San Francisco. Our room was very comfortable and the small restaurant served good food for breakfast. The dining room is open all day and while the menus looked very good, we chose to eat elsewhere for lunch and dinner. Our deal with Trailfinders included continental breakfast and we could buy main breakfast menu items at half price. The Eggs Benedict were delicious. Tuscan Inn is just a few hundred yards from the famous Pier 39 and the sea lions. From Pier 39 you can pick up boat trips around the bay and all of the bus tours have a stop here. The tram system runs nearby to take you to Market Street. A very good all round choice.
