This nice hotel is right in the middle of all the action! You walk out the door to see the trolley cruising by, do a little shopping, and have the world right at your finger tips. It is located right by Union Square part and within walking distance to the famous China Town! The rooms are quite small but we knew this going in to our trip. If you want a room where you need to do lots of activities this may not be the hotel for you. We like to enjoy the city we are visiting and spend minimal time in the hotel so it was perfect for us!!! They also offer a breakfast every morning. It was not a huge selection but it was free therefore how could anyone complain! All in all this hotel is good if you are looking for an affordable hotel with great location in the mix of all the business San Fran has to offer!

Room Tip: If you are concerned about the size of your room make sure you do not just choose the cheapest room...

We stayed in July 2014 and were pleasantly suprised by the hotel. The room was very clean and the bathroom was newly renovated and very clean as well. The hotel is situated very conveniently on Powell Street and only one block from Union Square. Our room was at the front of the hotel and there was it was a little noisy but the location more than made up for that. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was included and while it was not anything special the dining room was clean. The rooms are not airconditioned but have fans (the heater in our room kept came on twice which made the room hot but that problem was fixed immediately by the front desk). No laundry on site but one within easy walking distance. Would certainly stay here again.

Our room was broken into and our money & all electrical appliances were stollen, leaving us with the prospect if having to go home, 3 days into a 4 week holiday of a lifetime. The rooms are basically insecure, ours with a broken window catch, allowing easy access to our room to the many undesirables in the vacinity. We slept 2 nights in this unsafe room, thank God we were out when the robbery occurred. Who knows what could have happened. There are no rom safes, safety deposit box in reception is a closely guarded secret, with space for cash only, no Ipds etc. Hotel have done nothing to help us, the manager is powerless to help and the owners are invisible and really don't care, leaving us in the USA with no money or credit cards.if you value your safety and that of your possessions, please avoid this hotel, we would hate others to go though this experience.

Our family stayed at the Hotel Stratford because we needed a place that accommodated our family of 5. The cost was very reasonable but when we arrived we were a bit disappointed with the room. The condition was "worn out". There was no air conditioning and the building was hot. When we tried to open the windows to cool things down, the window sills were all broken and the windows wouldn't stay open. We had to prop them open with garbage cans etc.

The location is very good but the walls are thin so the street noise can be quite loud and it was hard for our children to fall asleep.

The staff was very friendly and helpful.

If you are on a tight budget then this is a good option but set your expectations for the conditions.

Great location near downtown San Fransisco - actually at the trolley line from where you can go anywhere you want. Breakfast was good, wifi (not to be underestimated these days) was excellent. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Good experience throughout.

Rather good, as for San Francisco, hotel. With very good central location. Rooms are quite large but the hotel needs refurbishment. This is one of the hotels that is really average, you can't say it's very good, but can't say it's bad.

I have stayed at this hotel many times. The location cannot be beat. Hop off the Bart walk up the street and there you are. The rooms are very cozy and by cozy I mean small however well equipped. This room is perfect for being and enjoying the city. They provide breakfast. The elevator is vintage so be patient. The cable car runs right in front which is cool. A little info: Macy's at Union Square has a post office in the basement so it's easy to ship awesome city finds home. Cannot wait to visit in November!
