“Small room but great breakfast”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

I stayed in this hotel for a few nights to attend a conference at a nearby hotel. The staff was friendly and, although the room was small, it was clean. The complimentary breakfast was fantastic! I don't know if it was California milk, but the granola cereal they served was unforgettable. Will book again for the upcoming conference next year just to have another granola cereal with great milk! LOL!

We appreciate our guests taking the time to share their experience with us to the public. Thank you for the review. First off, I have to personally agree and state " I love the granola cereal." I also agree that the elevator can be slow and we are working on a resolution. Thanks again and we hope to see you soon!

Stayed at the Stratford twice Jan 2013 and March 2013 -total five nights. The Hotel is situated on Powell St two doors down from union Square, walking distance from all the major attractions.Transport services are all within 1 -5 minutes walking. The rooms are small but cosy and functional.Breakfast is a satisfactory continental style, The only downside of the hotel is the single small lift which can take some time if you are on the upper floors with your luggage.Staff are are excellent, courteous and efficient,Free Wi Fi.

Room Tip: Upper rooms appear to be recently renovated and quieter.

We stayed 5 nights at Stratford, we got the train from the airport and as soon as we stepped into the city from the station we could see the sign for our hotel just up the street. The location is fab, within walking distance of cable car stops, union square, all shops and restaurants on door step and china town just 5 minute walk around the corner.
Fisherman's wharf is a cable car ride away, there is a cable car stop to the right of the hotel you can pay on the cable car you don't need to get a ticket unless the cable car driver says so then you have to walk to ticket office at the bottom of Powell Street. It was a fun ride!!!
We stayed on 7th floor and it got sooooo flipping hot in the night you woke up sweating, it was to noisy to have windows open because we are in the centre of every thing and our in room ceiling fan did not work.
On the 2nd day the hair dryer blew up whilst drying my hair but once reported to reception it was fixed the same day whilst we was out and about.
All reception staff where friendly and helpful. The room was cleaned daily and bed was made up.
Breakfast was very very basic, toast, awful cereals, some sliced oranges and muffins ( not the cake type) it Was ok if your wanting to save a few pennies but not great.
We was happy to give it a miss and not bother and ate at local diners. It's a shame they can't have a wider range like croissants and more fruit options then we probably would of had it most mornings.
So all in all good hotel in a great location, I would stay here again should I visit San Francisco

Stayed here for a week in late Feb 2013 and the hotel was excellent considering the price. The staff were all very helpful and courteous at all times. Our room was on floor 7 and to the back of the hotel so we weren't disturbed by too much street noise. It was small but had everything we needed and the shower was really powerful. The room was clean and tastefully decorated too. The only downside to our room was the window, it opened onto a brick wall which was only a few feet away and would be no good if you had small children as the window opened easily far enough for an adult to get out (my partner was concerned as I have a tendency to sleepwalk!).
The lift wasn't as quick as a modern hotel but we never waited too long for it, even in peak times. We weren't expecting breakfast so this was an added bonus and we used this facility quite a few times - fresh fruit, cereal, toast and a range of hot and cold drinks were readily available each day and the room was kept immaculately clean by the housekeeping staff.
The location of the hotel was second to none, a few minutes walk from union square in one direction and a few minutes from market street in the other, and with excellent transport links - cable car stop right outside, F-line tram stop and BART and bus routes on market street.
If we were returning we wouldn't hesitate to stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: You'll get noise wherever you are in this hotel but I guess higher rooms will be a touch quieter...

The location is definitely the biggest draw for this little spot. Right on Powell Street, the BART station is two blocks away and Union Square less than a block. It's not a flashy hotel, I will admit. But if you are planning on spending the majority of your time buzzing around the city, it's perfect. The continental breakfast provided in the am is just enough to get you out the door, great coffee. Our window was right on Powell Street so yes, we could hear the street noise. But it was really part of the experience and didn't stop us from sleeping at night. The staff was friendly and happy to check our luggage since we had time to cruise before our flight took off. I would easily stay there again.

My hubby and I booked this hotel for five nights for New Years. Location, location, location. If you want to be in the middle of EVERYTHING stay here. It will be loud, e-v-e-r-y night. This isn't just car traffic or people walking type of noise, but entertainers continuing their rumble till the wee hours of the night/morning. Thankfully for us, we're heavy sleepers. This is not the type of hotel room you stay and relax at. We booked the room with the view and the bed took up the whole space. Everything was clean but the building was old, the pipes creek. Our bathroom window faced other hotel bathroom windows. Which was a bit disturbing so we always kept it closed. The room does get hot, so we kept the fan on the whole day even though we weren't there. At night it's so loud you wouldn't want to keep the window open. Lastly breakfast is not worth eating there at all. Just take the tiny muffins and fruits as day snacks and eat breakfast elsewhere. And the elevator is very slow.

Room Tip: Ask for the biggest room they have, cause these rooms are small even for the suites. CHECK YOUR BIL...

The place is conveniently located in downtown SF, close to all public transportation and to car rental agents. The rooms are small but efficiently arranged. Very clean and well maintained. Our room was on the back side and with open windows we could hardly hear some noise from the street. Breakfast was OK. Some patience is needed using the outdated lift. Stairs are narrow and steep. Friendly staff.

Room Tip: rooms on the back side a quieter
