Maybe it was the old, cage-style, very dingy, elevator, with a grimy door, part of its jamb gouged-out and scratched and stained walls, that gave us a lousy first impression that, possibly, biased the rest of our stay in this place, which we, pretty much, disliked intensely. The best thing you can say about this hotel is that the rooms are clean. However, they are on the small side and the huge old-style wooden bed (although very comfortable) and massive chest of drawers do not help any in this respect. Really amazing was the fact that the chest of drawers had three handles missing (for one of the drawers and the two middle doors, which thus could not be opened at all!). The bathroom door, unless fully closed, insisted on swinging fully open (towards the room) and the clothes closet was not even deep enough to accommodate the hangers (so that the doors would be always partly open!!!) and was noticeably tilted forward. I don’t think we would return to this place, even if for free, unless it were the absolutely last choice. It really seems like they are trying to squeeze the last drop out of everything, as just about everything seemed to be on its last legs (slightly soiled carpets –ours with a burn mark from an iron-, old bedsheets, etc., etc., etc.) They should renovate it all, and soon!!
And, yes! the room windows were left wide open, with the fire escape ladder just outside! You see, it was "Indian Summer" .... And no in-room safe! You had to leave your valuable stuff at the front desk, where they kept it in a drawer.
And all for $300+ a night!
