Super 8 San Francisco/Near the Marina
Ranked #160 of 230 Hotels in San Francisco
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Unfortunately my husband and I decided to try hotwire for our 3 night stay in San Francisco and ended up with this Super 8. We did not expect much, but it was worse than expected. The room itself was an ok size, but was outdated, quite worn and not very clean (hair on the bathroom floor and in a towel and crumbs on the floor etc.). We were also concerned when we saw a hole in the bathroom door like it had been kicked in, as well as a burn mark on the toilet seat. We decided to mention this to the person at the front desk and he may as well have said “what did you expect”. In the past, other Inns/motels/hotels etc. have been courteous enough to hold our luggage even after check out for a few hours until heading to the airport. We were very disappointed with the customer service here because we were told that they did not have any room for our luggage anywhere so we were stuck for 2 hours with all our stuff! So frustrating! Never again.

Stayed 4 nights and the good thing was that it was clean. First, the free limited parking is 8 spots for 80 rooms, not quite the deal it seems. In addition, the free breakfast was some cereal, with no seating, and you have to wake up the clerk to unlock the door. Finally, its a 3 story hotel with no elevator, not easy with luggage. If you dont use these amenities, then its a good price, but just know what you are getting.

The hotel room itself was nice and clean. We were directly facing Lombard street and we had no issues with any noise from the street. The only real negative about the place is the limited and extremely small parking spaces the hotel has. When we arrived we were able to get a spot, but after going out for the night and driving back, all the spots were taken (not surprising since there are only like 10 spots). We did find a cheat overnight parking garage about 3 block east on Lombard that was only 10 dollars for the night. Also, if you don't have to drive to get to nice dining and shopping options here. Just head one street north and there are plenty of nice local hangouts and dining options available.

Booked the super 8 for a four night stay mid May and I can't say I was impressed with anything the motel had to offer. We arrived at the motel after a 14 hour flight from England. The receptionist couldn't be bothered to even smile or ask us how we were doing. There is no lift so you have to carry heavy suitcases up stairs. The room was clean apart from the grubby carpet and it had a large fridge which came in handy. The breakfast was minimal and you had to carry it back upstairs and across the car park as there is no where to sit and eat. There is also a strong smell of curry which i found off putting. Most of the staff at reception apart from Mrs Patel are not very civil. I would not recommend this hotel as its not worth the money they charge.

Me and a friend stayed at the Super 8 for 5 nights while in San Francisco in May. We booked quite late and prices in San Fran are very high so we opted for this hotel as a good option for price. It is a good 15 minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf so if you are looking to be in the busy area, this isn't what you are looking for. However, we found some lovely restaurants and bars just up the hill from the hotel and the area is a bit up and coming. The room was quite large, we were on the ground floor, but it only had one window which was blocked by other buildings and was very dark. As such, we actually had the heating on in May! Breakfast is a tiny buffet in reception and there is nowhere to sit so you have to take it to your room. Breakfast is very basic (cereal, toast, juices) but as food is so cheap in the US we wanted to eat out most days anyway and only used the hotel's option on days we were going on trips. If you're on a budget and don't mind walking a little this is not a bad option but there are other hotels around for similar price that may be better....
