“Good hotel, but construction going on next door”
Reviewed May 27, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for three nights mid-week.

Pros:
-This hotel was clean and reasonably priced.
-The room had a small kitchenette with a microwave & fridge. (Walgreens is a few blocks away if you want to stock up on basic munchies.)
-Parking was free and public transportation was very convenient, so it's a great hotel if you want to forgo your car for the duration of your stay.
-Alamo Square & the Painted Ladies are a few blocks away.
-The neighborhood felt pretty safe, even when we were out walking late at night.

Cons:
-There's construction going on next door. As in, every day promptly at 7AM the hotel walls literally started shaking as if there were a terrible thunderstorm outside. They started ripping up a parking lot during the 3 days we were there, so I presume that construction will continue for quite some time until they finish building whatever it is that they're building.
-There are about 45 rooms & only 17 parking spots, so if you have a car, get there early to ensure you get a spot.
-I hope you like refined carbs, because that's all they have at their free breakfast - toast, Otis Spunkmeyer muffins & cereal. Their breakfast area is just a small counter in the corner of the office, so it is a bit cramped while preparing your food. If you want to sit & enjoy your carbs, you'll need to take them back to your room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the side of the hotel that is not adjacent to the construction site.

I was very disappointed when the online bidding site assigned me to this hotel, which I pictured to be in the middle of nowhere. When I called to request a room with two beds, I was rudely told that this would cost an additional $40. However, when I arrived, we were given a "suite" at no extra charge; this suite was large with a weird wall mural but it had a pull-out sofa that was already made up and surprisingly comfortable, plus a king bed. The bathroom had a nice shower with lots of hot water and a jacuzzi tub we did not use. The room was clean with fast free internet access. Breakfast was meager but the orange juice and coffee were good. The only downside was a construction site next door with a wrecking ball, and noisy garbage trucks. However, if you are an early riser, this will not bother you. The 21 Hayes bus stop was steps away and in minutes we were zipping down Market past several BART stops, straight to the Ferry Building, for $2.00 for an adult and $.75 for a senior. We were very pleased with the location of this motel, which turned out to be very convenient to what we wanted to see. Best location for anyone attending the Opera, Ballet or Symphony, which are 2 blocks away. Great neighborhood and eateries within a block. Keep an open mind!

Room Tip: request as far away from the construction noise as possible

For a hotel in San Francisco, this motel is relatively inexpensive, but it is not a bargain. The motel is shabby, with worn carpet and old bathrooms. The manager strangely put up a sign that he was not available at 7:00 am, and this sign was still up at 9:30. Huh? The "breakfast" is trivial.

I wonder why Day's Inn wants this property to carry its brand?????

Room Tip: I would advise avoiding all rooms at this motel.

We arrived 30 min earlier than expected. We asked for check-in at 1:30 PM and all the staff said was "Check in is at 2" and nothing else. She could have said differently, could have offered early check-in, or if it was not an option, she could have explained. There is no customer service.

Noisy customers on the floor woke us up and kept us up from 3AM - 4:30AM by talking and yelling outside of the room forever. We did ask them to quiet down but they would come back soon. Very annoying and what was the hotel staff doing?!

Location is good. You can catch a bus at Civic Center (short walking distance), find a lot of restaurants in the area, and it's close to one of the main road (Geary).

Free parking w/ the stay is nice but it fills up pretty quickly and we saw some customers were not able to secure the space. Come park early.

Breakfast is junk food, like many hotels/motels (well, it's free). But you have breakfast places so close.

We stayed at the Days Inn in the Hayes Valley for two nights. The hotel is right in the middle of a revitalized neighborhood and could not be more perfectly situated. You are only a few blocks walking distance from the famous "Painted Ladies", 15 minutes’ walk to the Market Street train/trolley connector, countless neighborhood bars and restaurants, close to the opera, local markets, and many unique and eclectic shops. The property has been renovated, the rooms are clean and the grounds well-cared for. The staff was wonderful, welcoming, and very knowledgeable about the area. What this place lacks in "style" it makes up for in location. There is free parking available at the hotel - hurry to get a spot and just leave your car and set out on foot ..... the absolute best way to discover San Fran! An ideal home-base to explore and check out the many awesome neighborhoods!

Room Tip: Pick a ground floor room for the best convenience!

We stayed here for 3. Nights. Hayes Valley is a great location. The motel is clean and there is parking on site. The organization is a little funky - with 4th floor rooms requiring you to climb up to the roof and then climb down a few steps. Our room was on the ground floor level right under the staircase. I was a little worried that it would be noisy, but it hasn't been a problem. The one downside is the free continental breakfast. It is served in the office using a tiny kitchen space in the corner of the office. The first morning their were 3 or 4 families trying to make breakfast. The milk was empty leaving dry cereal, the coffee was not great, and the packaged muffins were all banana nut. You are left with toast. But we foundation great cafe around the corner. The location is fantastic - just a few blocks to Market street where you can get on every bus, trolley or the BART. Around the corner on Hayes Street there are fabulous restaurants. I did a lot of research and it was one of the most afforadable, clean, satisfactory motels.
