Owner description: Mile-long Baker Beach lies at the foot of rugged serpentine cliffs west of the Golden Gate. Large waves, undertow and rip currents make the beach unsafe for swimming, but it provides panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands and Lands End. You can fish or check out the shorelife along the beach and rocky shoreline. Restrooms and picnic tables are nearby.

“Just a beach”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

I wanted to go here as I've seen the beach in many films, and have already done a lot of attractions on previous visits. After walking the coastal trail to get here,I wasn't that amazed. It was a horribly windy day,the sand is grey and the water was too.Still, this does not deter local nudists, who manage to pop up in your photos no matter how hard you try to avoid them.I basically walked up to the rocks, snapped a shot of the bridge, and left. There's toilets, and picnic/bbq facilities, which is probably nice if you have good weather.I left feeling very underwhelmed. There's better beaches in the world, and more interesting things to see in San Francisco.

“Stunning beach with equally great views”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

Baker Beach has the best view of the Golden Gate Bridge. You can get right up under it almost! And it's not that busy either! The best view is at the north end and that's the part that is clothes optional!

You also have the famous Escape from Alcatraz triathlon Sand Ladder near the north end, which is great to try to run up! It's seriously tough going!!

“Best place for the sunset in San Fransisco”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

Simply stunning for the sunset!! The beach is clean, wasn't too busy though we did go there in the evening specifically at sundown. Not disappointed though. The view up to Golden Gate Bridge is excellent too. I'd love to see it again someday!

“Best Kept Secret”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

I love this beach. It's rarely crowded and makes for stunning pictures with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. You can drive right up to the path to the beach, and there's NO FEE. They also have restrooms and a foot-washing station, which we needed.

“Great place to appreciate the beauty of the Golden Gate Bridge”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

The access is quite easy after driving to the Gibson Road parking lot. The beach is right there and the golden gate bridge is in front of you. The more you walk towards the bridge along the beach, the more you see the beauty of this magnificent bridge.

The view here is much much better than the view from the observatory which you see the other side of the bridge.
