Owner description: Mile-long Baker Beach lies at the foot of rugged serpentine cliffs west of the Golden Gate. Large waves, undertow and rip currents make the beach unsafe for swimming, but it provides panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands and Lands End. You can fish or check out the shorelife along the beach and rocky shoreline. Restrooms and picnic tables are nearby.

Great for dogs, kids, and sea-glass searching.
This is generally a close break, high surf, not ideal swimming beach, but there have been times when the tide cooperates and you can brave the cold and current.
Parking can be a challenge on really hot days so take Presidi-GO (free Presidio Shuttle, you can get on at the Lombard Gate stop). Some one wrote there is an Entry Fee and I run there several times a week I have never had to pay.

The far end (closest to the bridge) has some 'clothing optional' areas when it is particularly nice out. The far end also has the Sand Stairs, it's is a hard workout with a great view all the way up.
Bring Your Own - EVERYTHING. There is really no options with-in walking distance. If you are desperate the closest store is on 25th and Clement. Good picnic pick up at Angelina's Cafe on 22nd and California.

There is not much in the world as spectacular as being on a beautiful beach in the shadow of the amazing Golden Gate Bridge. The water is not swimmable, but it is so beautiful, that just sitting and contemplating life is sufficient.

entry fee, costly , hard to find, expect some traffic but the beach is nice, expect mild to cold weather, walking a bit far from car to beach. bring your own stuff nothing there to purchase.

This is my favorite location for beautiful photos of the Golden Gate Bridge. We have some amazing pictures of our kids at this location. Not to be missed when in SF!
