“Convenient to the Presidio, good parking & very good food, but can be noisy”

My wife and I ate here on the Friday night of Thanksgiving weekend. Caught in traffic returning to the city, we called to say that we would arrive an hour or two after our reservation. The restaurant was very accommodating and was able fit us in once we did arrive. I had liver and onions; the liver was very good, but it wasn't smothered with gravy and onions the way my mother used to serve it (this may be my my problem) My wife had the fish special - broiled sole with garlic, parsley and lemon - that was outstanding! The restaurant was comfortably crowded. With tables close to each other, it was annoying to have a loud-speaking person in each of the two groups having dinner on either side of us. This restaurant was established about six years ago in one of the enlisted men's barracks. It has been nicely done. We will likely return on our next trip to San Francisco. How many restaurants in San Fran can you simply drive up to and park? You can here.

“Neighborhood gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2013 via mobile

Great atmosphere right in the heart of the presidio. Vast wine selection with yummy deviled eggs. The butternut squash soup was also a popular item. The veal was good, not great but everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their dishes.

“Amazing how service can be so important!”

Hard to write about my experience here for brunch...We were seated at a very nice table by a window overlooking the beautiful grounds. Unfortunately soon after we were seated and before we had ordered anything, two large and loud tables were seated near us. We really didn't want to move and lose the wonderful lady server we had, but the only option was another section and she said she totally understood. Well, that's when it all went down hill. Our waiter didn't seem to know the difference between Hash as in corned beef hash and steak and eggs. One of the day's special dishes was a hash and when I asked him about it he started to describe it as steak and eggs........It would take too long here to go down the list of mishaps with this server. All in all the place is very pleasant and they have very good food, but you get one lousy server and it ruins the whole experience.

“Great Find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2013

We were pointed to this restaurant by a local. It's tucked away and a great find. I like having options such as sitting at a table, the bar or outside on the deck. The hostess was kind enough to look for additional space on the deck before we decided to sit at the bar, had a very nice time connecting with the bartenders. We were there for brunch, and we did not feel restricted by the menu. Anywhere you can get a Vietnamese sandwich, chicken soup, a salad or meatloaf is my kind of place. They have a nice cocktail list, too. The place is casual, but very comfortable. It was busy but not overly hectic when we were there.

“Food Good, Very Poor Service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2013

We had to wait nearly half an hour them to make up a table for us. When we sat down there were several empty tables? The tables were very uneven and some food was spilled. We were not offered water with our meal (other tables had water). Nobody came to ask how our food was (actually it was pretty good). We were not offered deserts or coffee. We noticed another couple had to grab a waitress to get coffees. They also mentioned unstable tables and she just laughed and said that lots of them were like that. We went here because we read a good review, we should have stuck with the cafes downtown.
