Wolfe Ranch Quail Breast, perfectly seasoned and served with potatoes, maitake mushrooms and Padron peppers...superb.

Great service--we had a window seat right on California Ave, lots of locals, good food and drinks, nice wine list.

Chose this place because we were staying close by and wanted a really nice Italian without having to walk to North Beach. Plus the TripAdvisor reviews sounded great. Had a lovely Prosecco at the bar and then went to our table. Its a bit close, but the noise level is really not that bad, even with a completely full restaurant. Surprisingly, my husband ordered the Salumi Mista for our starter. Normally he doesn't care for cured meats. Happily, he chose one of the most ourstanding items on the menu. Every mouthful was a tasty surprise. Our delightful waiter, Rocco, explained each item, so in general, we knew what we were eating. This is NOT your usual salami and cheese app. We weren't as happy with the pasta duo. It was served slightly cool and no one brought over grated parmesan, which it needed badly. However, the 2 desserts were astoundingly good, especially the chocolate custard. But the Panna Cotta with rasberries was almost as good. Plus good wines, plus excellent expresso. It really was "almost perfect".

This restaurant was a great find, convenient to the embarcadero, and with fabulous Italian cuisine. They make all their own cured meats, and we were particularly thrilled with the assortment of salami on the antipasto platter in this regard. Best beef short rib I have EVER had, with a luscious topping of walnuts and bread crumbs; served with roasted pears, cippolini onions and whipped potatoes. Completely memorable. Great wine list. Go!

First thing to say is dont confuse this place with PERBUCCO which is (amazingly) next door but a different place altogether. Perbacco is Italian styled but not immediately recognisable to a resident of a hilltop town in Tuscany. Nevertheless there are some Italian "ish" dishes and some decent Italian wines. It all doesnt matter because the food is excellent and the service good. (My pasta dish tasted authentic but was slightly cool, hence 4/5 stars). It is a very buzzy and noisy place but if you want a slightly quieter meal ask for a table upstairs. This is good; I'll be back,
