I would recommend to anyone staying at the Parsonage!
We stayed there for 4 days and we had a great experience.
John and Joan welcome you warmly and it is a very lovely experience to stay at their home.

The Parsonage has an amazing architecture and the decoration of our room was beautiful.
Staying in the Haight district is really valuable as well. The Streets are so great for a stroll and for relaxing.

I can't wait coming back visiting the Parsonage!

My husband and I went to San Francisco for an extended weekend trip. Upon arrival, we immediately were charmed by the lovely Victorian home, our warm and accommodating hosts Joan and John, and their precious dog Pilar. The Victorian home is a wonderful blend of historic elegance - marble fireplaces, beautiful ceiling medallions, and period antiques - and modern comforts - an elevator, skylights, and towel warmers.

We enjoyed the following during our trip:

+ The Alma Spreckles Room (a simple but pretty room with a four-poster canopy bed, marble wood-burning fireplace, and spacious bathroom with a clawfoot tub)
+ Tasty breakfast at a formal dining table (We had fresh fruit, yougurt and granola, French toast, chicken sausage, cheese souffle with strawberries, toast, and waffles.)
+ Friendly hosts (John and Joan were sincere in meeting any of our requests whether it was for no pork during breakfast, water for our room, or a spot for TV-watching.)
+ Pilar (The Portugese Water Dog protects her owners, entertains the guests, and demands attention from everyone in the house.)

The following were areas for improvement:

- No TVs in guest rooms though there is plenty of space for flat-screen TVs in the rooms
- No "Do not disturb" sign (in case you do not want housekeeping)
- No room safe for extra security or iron in the room (We brought our own travel iron, but I'm sure Joan or John would accommodate a guest who needed to use an iron.)
- Street noise from the buses and traffic
- No lotions or bath products to take home (With the exception of soap, the shower gels are bulk products. Bring your own lotion and shampoo/conditioner).

Room Tip: The Alma Spreckles Room has a wonderful clawfoot tub.

Situated ideally near wonderful restaurants of Hayes Valley and the Mission District and within walking distance of the opera, ballet, symphony, and the Asian Museum is a spectacular Victorian home, lovingly refurbished to its historic glory and exquisitely decorated with period antiques, The Parsonage is maintained by two charming innkeepers, Joan and John, who have lavished their impeccable taste and keen eye in furnishing their home as an ideal bed and breakfast. Each bedroom is cozy and tastefully decorated, the bathrooms are modern, and the public parlors create an ambiance of luxury and a haven from the outside world. Each morning brings an enticing breakfast, served with warmth and intelligence, as you are made to feel a welcome guest in the upscale home of instant old friends. This gem is a real find.

From the moment we walked through their front door at The Parsonage, our hosts Joan and John made us feel right at home. Our third host, their wonderful, friendly dog Pilar will be looking for some affection from you in no time. Their Second Empire style Victorian house has been lovingly preserved, with most of the original detail in place, including amazing fireplaces in the main rooms. The couple have filled their home with beautiful period pieces. The rooms are generous in size, beautifully decorated and comfortable. We enjoyed a fire in the open fireplace in our room both nights of our stay. They show genuine interest in their guests and go out of their way to provide helpful hints to out-of-towners on what to see and do -- and how to get there. We had some great conversations over a glass of wine. Their Haight Street location is so convenient -- close to public transportation and to interesting neighbourhood shops and restaurants on Hayes Street. John takes great delight in preparing inspired breakfasts and was so accommodating to a gluten-free dietary restriction. We hope to return to San Francisco some day soon and would definitely choose to stay with Joan and John at The Parsonage again.

My friend and I stayed with John and Joan when we were visiting my daughter in SF. We spent three delightful nights at The Parsonage. Loved the accommodations, the breakfasts and the company, including their dog, Pilar. Our room was very comfortable and quiet. The home is lovely and the location is walkable to buses and the civic center area. My daughter was invited to join us for a Sunday breakfast; it was lovely. You can't go wrong with this B&B.

We stayed with John and Joan in September for a San Francisco long weekend before we headed to Napa. September is the best month weatherwise to visit! Warm sunny days and cooler evenings. From the reservation process to our departure it was a great experience. Spoil yourself and have Joan arrange transportation to the Parsonage if you are arriving by air. You do not need a car in this city. The Parsonage has a great location. You can walk to Market street and the vintage street car line, take a bus right outside their door, or walk all the way to the waterfront. We did all three methods so we could see as much as we wanted every day. If you have the time linger after breakfast or have an afternoon tea with John and Joan. We enjoyed their tips and had some great conversations on a variety of topics. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a large bathroom and there is an elevator so you don't have to carry your luggage very far. You will start each day with a great breakfast. We bought hop on hop off bus tickets and ventured from Haight to Sausalito and everything in between. This a great way to get an overview of the city if you are visting for the first time. Don't forget the waterfront market if you are here on a Saturday. This is a great place to call your home while in San Francisco and you will not get a better value in any downtown premium hotel. Add Joan and John to the equation and you have an outstanding experience.

Room Tip: Check their website for preview of all the rooms so you can choose a room that works best for you. W...

My husband and I hadn't been to San Francisco together in many years, so we decided to do a 4-day weekend there in early December. I found The Parsonage online, and we're so glad I did. Everything about our stay was just right!

First of all, we like the location, because we're diehard walkers. Though the public transit options are plentiful and very convenient to The Parsonage, we just walked all over the city. Each day, we struck out in a different direction. From The Parsonage, we walked to North Beach, ChinaTown, the Financial District, Fisherman's Wharf, Pacific Heights, Hayes Valley, the Mission District, Doloros Park, Haight Ashbury, Golden Gate Park and More. Also, there are some really good restaurants within short distances from the house. (For example, tea drinkers shouldn't miss Samovar, which is only one block away.)

Joan and John are the perfect hosts -- extraordinarily gracious and warm. They anticipate and meet their guests needs, and are available while also unobtrusive. The breakfasts they serve are wonderful, and the conversation is pleasant and interesting.

We stayed on the top floor in the Julia Morgan room. Like all rooms in the house, ours was filled with wonderful antiques. The hosts have good stories about many of the pieces -- as well as even more intersting stories about the history of the house and its former owners.

We've stayed at B&Bs all over the U.S. and in a few other countries. Though we've stayed in some very nice ones, in the past there has always been something that wasn't to our liking. Not so at The Parsonage. We liked everything about it!
