“Makes me jealous”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

I was completely amazed by the variety and quality of the offerings here. It's not in the best area, (the Tenderloin) so most won't come anywhere near it, but definitely a can't miss if you do! I wish our farmer's markets were even half of what this one was. Definitely try to go if you can, it's worth it.

“Loved this place”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

Loved this place for so many reasons. Great atmosphere - bustling with people of all backgrounds and ages. Great food - fantastic fruit and veg, flowers, proper cheese, olives, bread. Free samples to try and food stalls to snack at. And great ethic about bring produce from small farmers at reasonable prices into the 'food desert' of the city. Had a great time taking photos - so colourful.

“Best quality in SF, good prices, nice respite from surrounding neighborhood”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

Many of the same folks who bring you the Saturday Farmers Market at Alemany Blvd are here at UN Plaza on Sundays and Wednesdays from 07:00-16:00, and recently have also added Fridays, from 07:00-14:00. If you show up at 7 a.m., you will mostly encounter older Chinese ladies and Russian couples - neither of which speak much English, but all of which have sharp elbows and won't hesitate to jab you over a large juicy peach that's already in the palm of your hand.

This area is very sketchy, between "homeless" drug users, and criminal elements, but security is stepped up during the farmers' market times, so it feels pretty safe. Keep a hold of your wallet, nonetheless.

If you don't have cash, there is apparently a service on site that sells tokens to use at the farmers markets that accepts credit cards. Not sure about the fees or logistics. Several venders sell tree-ripened fruit that must be eaten that day. While it may seem rotten, it is actually perfectly ripened and ready to be eaten on the spot. Lower prices does not necessarily always mean lower quality.

“Go during lunch”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

This is a great place for fresh produce and home made lunch plates. While you walk around you can sample fresh fruit, cheeses and breads of all sorts. I got a hamburger that was grass fed, free range cow that tasted very happy. Prices are low to moderate for san fran standards.
