Description: Colibri Mexican Bistro lies in the heart of San Francisco's bustling Theatre District, just a block west of Union Square. Spanish for "hummingbird," Colibri combines the simplicity of authentic family recipes with fresh, high-quality ingredients to bring diners unparalleled, delectable Mexican cuisine in a charming, turn of the century cantina setting. This warm and inviting eatery is reminiscent of Mexico City restaurants of the 1900's, decorated with classic Spanish paintings and accentuated by a vast collection of uniquely shaped and rare tequila bottles. Filled with energy, Colibri projects black and white 1940's Latino-film clips at the front of the house, while the open kitchen in back provides glimpses of its colorful cuisine in different stages of completions. Boosting a knowledgeable staff and attentive, sociable management, Colibri is dedicated to providing a memorable dining experience for both tourist and locals alike.

“Guacamole and Carnitas done right”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

This restaurant is more upscale compared to your typical Mexican food joint. The restaurant has a really nice vibe, and you can really sit down and enjoy your food. The waiter was very prompt and efficient with his service. I had guacamole, and it has to be one of the best guacamoles I've ever had. Then the carnitas tacos were amazing...The meat was very well done, with lots of flavor! authentic tortillas to go with it, and god rice and beans.... I will definitely be coming back here for more. Despite the higher price of its food, I was very pleased with the flavors and good customer service.

“Great place - excellent margaritas & fish tacos!”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

We really liked this place! - stopped in after a long day sightseeing and ate at the bar The bartenders were fun and made absolutely the best margaritas we've ever had. The food was delicious and authentic. The fish tacos were the best I've ever had. Order an after dinner coffee and watch the care that goes into it!. Mexican "Santo" movies played on the bar TV. Fun night.

“Terrible. Really...really...terrible.”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Four of us went to Calibri for a 7:30 table and left a long fifty minutes later....hungry. The food was...in a word...terrible. Probably the worst meal we've had in years... Service was fine but nobody even asked why when they picked up four plates ... Most of the food had only been tasted and hardly any eaten. Had they asked, we would have explained how tasteless, dry and almost completely inedible the food was. Lots of other great restaurants close by so no reason to waste your time here,

“Friendly bartender, good guacamole”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

I stopped in at Colibri late Friday night for guacamole, because i had missed dinner. The guacamole was good and fresh. The bartender was also nice. He took a photo of me and plugged in my cell phone so it could charge. The restaurant is also attractive inside.

“A nice twist on traditional Mexican...”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

Pozole Verde was excellent. It's a modern take on Mexican cuisine; however, this does not explain the price-point. Food is solid, drinks are on-point and service is quality. If they took down the price a bit the place would be perfect! It's almost too pricy. You'll enjoy the food. You will be happy with your order.
