Description: Colibri Mexican Bistro lies in the heart of San Francisco's bustling Theatre District, just a block west of Union Square. Spanish for "hummingbird," Colibri combines the simplicity of authentic family recipes with fresh, high-quality ingredients to bring diners unparalleled, delectable Mexican cuisine in a charming, turn of the century cantina setting. This warm and inviting eatery is reminiscent of Mexico City restaurants of the 1900's, decorated with classic Spanish paintings and accentuated by a vast collection of uniquely shaped and rare tequila bottles. Filled with energy, Colibri projects black and white 1940's Latino-film clips at the front of the house, while the open kitchen in back provides glimpses of its colorful cuisine in different stages of completions. Boosting a knowledgeable staff and attentive, sociable management, Colibri is dedicated to providing a memorable dining experience for both tourist and locals alike.

We spent the first part of our Honeymoon in San Francisco in Oct 2012 and we passed this Mexican everytime we came out of our hotel and it was always busy so we decided to try it. We were placed at the bar as the place was buzzing and very busy and we had not booked. We were happy enough with this as the bar man was very attentive and we never ran out of drink. By far this was the best Mexican meal I have ever tasted. My husband had the lamb shank and the meat was cooked to perfection and just feel off the bone. Seriously delicious. Definately give it ago if your in the area. Cocktails are very tasty too!!

Went there by myself without having booked so ended up sitting at the bar - which was great. Food was fantastic. I had the Ceviche Pescado and cactus leaves with some draft beer. Service was curteous but nothing more. Which was fine really.

Warmly recommended!

Had dinner on a Sunday evening.
Although the restaurant was full it did not feel crowded .
The food was very good as was the service .
We found it a little expensive.

Excellent quality Mexican food, sangria and cocktails! It was very close to where we were staying and heard it was good so wanted to give it a try. Would recommend this to friends and family and would go back if I'm in the area again.

Had a great meal here prior to a show at the Curran Theater. Great homemade tortillas. Really enjoyed my vegie Chili Relleno.
