Description: Colibri Mexican Bistro lies in the heart of San Francisco's bustling Theatre District, just a block west of Union Square. Spanish for "hummingbird," Colibri combines the simplicity of authentic family recipes with fresh, high-quality ingredients to bring diners unparalleled, delectable Mexican cuisine in a charming, turn of the century cantina setting. This warm and inviting eatery is reminiscent of Mexico City restaurants of the 1900's, decorated with classic Spanish paintings and accentuated by a vast collection of uniquely shaped and rare tequila bottles. Filled with energy, Colibri projects black and white 1940's Latino-film clips at the front of the house, while the open kitchen in back provides glimpses of its colorful cuisine in different stages of completions. Boosting a knowledgeable staff and attentive, sociable management, Colibri is dedicated to providing a memorable dining experience for both tourist and locals alike.

“Fresh and tasty!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

We've been to Colibri multiple times and it has never disappointed. Counting with an impressive Tequila list, aficionados will find something delicious to warm them up on foggy San Francisco evenings. The food is fresh and comes out of the kitchen at a good pace, the service is attentive and friendly. On the nights when live music is offered it can get a bit noisy and difficult to hear the conversation at your table, so skip live music nights if you're meeting friends you haven't seen in awhile and were planning to catch up over dinner. There are parking lots nearby and many bus lines are close to Colibri, so you can decide if you want to drive or take public transit. Enjoy, Colibri which means Hummingbird in Spanish, olé!

“Nice Dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2012 via mobile

We came here after a day of siteseeing. We had great margarettas followed by a very nice meal, lamb chops with rasberry mole sauce. Nice atmosphere although they should change the music to a mexican genre.

“Really enjoyed my dinner here!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

Okay, so this is a mid-priced Mexican restaurant near to Union Square.

The guacamole starter was as huge as it was delicious! The complimentary snacks were also very nice. Great start.

For main I had the Pechuga Ranchera, which was very nice indeed. My wife had the Camarones en Mole de Tamarindo, which was less impressive.

Overall, we enjoyed the food and also the good selection of beers. Service was also extremely good (we sat at the bar) :) Nice ambiance too.

Good value for money, I would certainly go again.

“pricy upscale mexican”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

This is upscal mexican and somewhat pricey but worth it. Don't go looking for Tex-Mex. My wife had sliced duck breast with a green mole sauce and I had a filet mignon with a goat cheese stuffed pepper and a chili sauce. Our appies were also excellent. The service was very good. The prices were high, but the quality of the food would bring me back
