Description: At Sauce: Gough we serve what we like to call "Social Cuisine" - American comfort fare so good you'll want everyone at the table to try a bite. It's shared food without the tiny plates. Come sample Chef Ben's creations along with some drinks in the intimate Supper Club; cozy up to the beautiful redwood bar for a signature cocktail; or, enjoy a meal in the bustling main dining room. Experience what happens when Comfort Food meets California Cuisine — it could be our Tomato Bisque with white truffle grilled cheese sticks; Portobello mushroom fries; or our signature applewood-smoked-bacon wrapped meatloaf, something is sure to tickle your fancy. Located just a few blocks from the civic center in Hayes Valley, Sauce: Gough is the welcoming result of three partners' desire to create a comfortable spot for drinking and dining. Pre-Show, post-show and for all your private events Sauce is the place. Stop by for dinner any night between 5pm and Midnight and see for yourself; what’s cooking

Portabello bisque was near orgasmic. The staff was beyond excellent, friendly, happy, joking, this is one of the best places to swing by for an extra late dinner. Or just to stop by and share a guinness milkshake.

The bisque was great, but everything else was blah.

I'm not sure what I enjoyed more? the unbelievably addicting desserts (all unique creations... frozen PB&J with ice cream; donut-like delights to dip in a bourbon sauce that makes you want to lick the bowl clean... YUM!), the gourmet dishes or the always friendly staff.
I've been to Sauce several times since I came across it after it opened less than a year ago. My favorite appetizers are the melt in your mouth ahi starter, mango sauce over dungeness crab wontons and the shaved steak salad. The salad is such a great serving size that I've eaten eat as a main course a few times. But, I don't recommend that because you'd be missing out on some fabulous dinners? you can't go wrong with Sauce's twist on a traditional mac 'n cheese, the chicken wrapped in proscuitto, and from what I heard from others, the meatloaf is to die for (because anything wrapped in bacon has got to be good!).
I wouldn't be writing about Sauce if the food were not stellar. What sets Sauce apart is that the people there are just cool. I've had a different server each time and they are always friendly. The owner made a point of coming by to check in each time, and the bartenders have all been so welcoming that you want to stay and have a drink at the beautiful, handmade wood topped bar. What also sets Sauce apart is that the atmosphere is cozy, yet stylish and great lighting. The backroom is beautiful (and a great space for hosting a party!). Sauce is also convenient to get to from all parts of town. Located in Hayes Valley, its so central that it was an agreeable spot for me and friends to meet on several occasions.
I highly recommend making to Sauce before this new, San Francisco secret gets out to the masses.
