“Great location for exploring, but be ready to climb the hills”
Reviewed August 4, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for 3 nights and got a great price by agreeing to honour my company's corporate rate. The parking fee is not cheap tgough. Our room was 'upgraded' for a better view, but it was small and the second bed was a rollaway. The fog rarely cleared, so the view was a bit pointless. The rollaway was a good one, but I would rather have had 2 queen beds (which wasnt available in check in).
The hotel is iconic (I think it appeared in Bullit) and old worldy stylish. The only bar is on the top floor and there was a cover charge on Saturday evening, when we arrived.
The location is excellent, with both cable car lines close, but they get very busy. We walked to Fisherman's Wharf an Union Sq, but the return journey was tough up the hill.

Thank Sdwoo

“"Brunch of the Gods"”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

Seated at a table with an expansive view, sparkling wine with orange juice on the side was immediately served - we requested coffee as well and it too, was promptly served. Our server was not overburdened with too many tables to care for so was on top of every napkin fold, silverware change and plate clearance. We began with the Caviar Bar and cracked Dungeness crab legs - (2 passes of those). Carving station with prime rib was next to the egg station. Interesting vegetable and salad preparations, some truffled, were abundant. The dessert station had individual spoons set up with a variety of treats. A great value.

“Pricey but close to everything”
Reviewed March 18, 2013 via mobile

After many years hubby and I returned to Mark Hopkins. We had stayed here 17 years ago and was impressed with the service. This time we had pre paid our accommodations to ensure a great room with a view and while the room indeed had a view it was pathetically small. We ended up paying more to move to a larger room that at least would accommodate our clothing . The first room offered 2 small drawers and we were staying 5 days! So we moved the the second room one floor down. Views were nice but not great. At least there was a sitting area and 2 dressers. We enjoyed the continental breakfast each morning and it probably saves us a ton of cash as the area is expensive. The staff was accommodating and greeted us by name daily which was a nice surprise. I would most certainly go back but I would be very clear about what size room . The small one is less than the size of a holiday inn!
