The place if beautiful, the views are superb but for the price of the food you'd think you'd be eating gourmet. First off, the kid's chicken stips meal, stay away from it, it wasn't even real chicken ???

Even their clam chowder is so so. We were a big party, 5 adults, 3 kids and all of our meals were pretty bland. We ordered clam chowder, burgers, and pasta dishes. Like I said it was not good at all.

Such a bummer because the views are amazing!

We hadn't been here for a while and the menu looked a bit pub-like at first glance, but the preparations are still as good as ever, and the presentations quite fancy. We had mussels, salmon BBQ and a grilled root beer pork chop that was really great. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

I ate here with a crowd who were on a guided tour of the city so we had already pre-booked a set menu (with choices within it). Lovely decor in the hotel with great views over the Bay and to Alcatraz. Bar area was nice to relax before our tables were ready. I had the clam chowder to start which was delicious, steak in a red wine sauce and seasonal veg was my main course, the steak had quite a bit of sinew and fat in it but was mostly edible. A chocolate fondue mousse I opted for for dessert. Wine was nice and the beers were reasonably priced too. Bit noisy there but service was good and seemed a popular place.

My wife and I and some friends went to Neptune's Palace for dinner after getting off the cruise ship and walking over to Pier 39. The menu looked interesting and the wine list was extensive, so we went in. It was after 8:00 on the Sunday evening but the place was half-empty. Our server treated us like she'd rather be on her way home - we had to ask her twice for our drinks and we waited a long time for our bills.

We had a great table overlooking the water, the wines we had we great and everyone was very pleased with the food quality - my lobster Mac and cheese was amazing - but the server's attitude spoiled what could've been a wonderful evening.

The Pier 39 area is, to the British, a little bit like Blackpool on a Bank Holiday weekend.
having said that, its an enjoyable place to wander around soaking up the atmosphere, and we reckon this is about the best place to take the fish and clam chowders.
Recommended.
